Hello all. New to the forum. I am using a 102 SS Whip and about 15 ft of lmr-240 hooked to my Galaxy radio and it does a great job. Using my small mfj swr/power meter it shows a 1.2 on channel 1 and a 1.4 on channel 40. Good enough for me. Anyway, how exactly does the 102" whip radiate it's signal? More of an upward signal or does it radiate out up and down the antenna the same in all directions.
BTW, it is mounted about 9 inches behind the cab on a home made steel mount mounted on the bed rail and I do use a 4 and 1/2 inch barrel spring that my Dad bought about 50 yrs ago. Don't know the brand of the spring but it is very strong. Actually, the whip and spring are both my Dads old antenna setup from long ago.

I always found the 102" whip to work very well, albeit very long. For whatever the reason, I couldn't ever get a good SWR reading though with the spring attached, so I left it off. I use to use it as a base station antennae on the house roof, as I couldn't afford an actual base antennae back then. I also had one on my old '62 ford pick-up many years back. On my Pete, I ran a firestick for years, worked well. The '97 Ford I have now sports an older K40, good luck with it...

The ant will loose performance based on what and where its mounted now..Ant works best with more metal mass under the ant..Get rid of the spring and use a riser (same idea as the top of a predator 10k or monkey made)...
