I ran across a tanker driver that had his mounted to the bottom step. It came up right beside the drivers window. He had a bungie on it to make sure it didnt flap around too much. It seemed to work just fine. Mounting it to the step does get around any grounding issues.

I think a pretty reasonable assumption would be that yes, he found that taking the tip out of the 5.5' antennas gave him the best results, YMMV. If it was the same in every application no one would make a tuneable antenna.

I ran cophased (dual) 5 1/2 footers, used them on a Volvo with a condo and on the 379 Pete. In both applications, I found better SWR with the tips removed.rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

the 102" inch long 1/4" inch wide whip is the most ideal antennae for cb radios... that length and width is designed to perform the best for the mghz frequency cb radios use here in the US... 40 channels... 1-40, actually for all cb channels, but 19, which is mid channel between channel 1 and 40, the channel with less distortion from other frequencies, below the channel one or above the channel 40... that's why truckers use channel 19... it's mid range. kinda ######## tho
antennas w coils, it's suppose to be a 102 " antenna that part of was wrapped into a coil to make a 6',5',4',3' antenna.... no matter what, the coil is suppose to make up the difference... they should all be 102" at least.
102 " wrapped up lol -
it will... two coils won't benefit
