Maybe I'm being to critical but - I always look at these offers with the mind set that half of the gross pay I'll never see as take home pay with little to no benefits.
-
another thing to consider about a 1099 job is unemployment benefits. i think (but cannot swear to it) that when you are a 1099 contractor and become unemployed, you cannot collect unemployment benefits.
so if this is true, and you work for say 12 weeks, then become unemployed, all those weeks meant nothing, as in the "real working world" 8 weeks usually gets you unemployment benefits.
if someone knows this for sure, say so please. i do not remember where i heard this from. -
You are correct.
Unemployment is based on employee compensation. Unemployment tax is paid by the employer.
Be paid as a 1099, and you are screwed again. -
thanks, i had a feeling i was correct, but still wanted confirmation..

I have been on 1099 since i started driving and have no complaints. This is good if you are making over $1200 a week. My boss is required to pay work comp for me by the company so whatever happens at work i am covered. Also i have a good accountant who does my taxes at the end of the year for like $120. You sure need to save some money for at the end of the year you have to pay some of the money you make back in taxes, and if you are married and your wife works and have health insurance then you should be ok.
