These types of truck owners, those who pay with a 1099, usually are real arses! Normally the only drivers who work for these type of truck owners are drivers who can't get a job anywhere else, either because of a bad driving record or failed drug tests. Money is not everything! You would better serve your future by looking elsewhere for a job.

I work as a 1099 contractor, and my answers to the above questions are Yes, Yes, Yes and No.
I hear from the owner anywhere from once to five times per week, mainly because he's curious about whether I need anything for the truck, where I am and where I plan to go. Sometimes he'll call me to suggest a load that he's found, but I'm never pressured to accept his offer or find my own.
Not everyone that pays on a 1099 basis is skirting the law, nor are they 'bad' folks trying to get one over on the driver. -
Really?
I got my CDL in May, and stepped into a truck as a solo driver within a week. I took this job as a 1099 contractor because: 1. I didn't want to work as a slave to an opportunistic mega carrier, 2. I wanted the freedom and independence that this arrangement offered, 3. I don't want the 'big company' hassles that go along with working for a company that won't make the effort to treat its employees as individuals, and 4. It provides valuable experience that I will carry with me in my journey towards becoming an O/O, without much of the risk associated with the various L/P programs available today.
FYI, I have a spotless driving record and have never failed a drug test. Ever. -
So do over a million other drivers. Big deal. -

If you had taken the time to read the post that I was responding to, you'd realize that the comment I made was to illustrate that I was not in the category of driver that the poster had identified as 'the only drivers who work for these type of truck owners', not to beat my chest about my good driving record as you assumed. And I wasn't even talking to you.
Go find someone else to pick on, I've had about enough of your targeted attacks this weekend. -
Because you fail to see the point that others find you rather brash in your "I have done it all" type of attitude. Kudo's for coming out of a CDL school and not taking the "mega-carrier" route.
But you are young, inexperienced and running on luck right now. -
I'm well aware that others find me 'brash'. That's not an excuse for you (or me) to use someone such as myself as a target to vent your frustrations. I know what I know; if I'm wrong about something then tell me why and present your proof. I may have done and seen a lot, but I certainly haven't done and seen EVERYTHING.
And I suppose that my ability and life experience play no role in my success. Oh, that's right, you know nothing about any of that beyond what I've posted here.
Yes, it would definitely serve me better to be less confrontational. I'm working on it. It's difficult, it will take some time, and I would definitely appreciate your cooperation and understanding while I'm going through the process. -
Not for nothing, but if you had taken the time to read the post you quoted, you would see that it clearly says normally drivers who take these positions...
Normally, not only as you indicate above. Normally, meaning in most cases but not all. So you're the rare exception. Goody for you. But your comments to the post seem to suggest that you believe you are the norm instead the exception. Trust me, you're not. Also your comments indicate that you started doing this last May. Get a couple of years of filing tax returns from this deal under your belt and then come talk to us about whether or not you think it was a good choice.MNdriver Thanks this. -
I do not think we are social scientist nor certified to evaluate others personality traits or flaws, if it keeps up staff may evaluate your existence here.
