We have been running 10w-30 Valvoline in our Cummins engines for 4 years now and we haven't had an issue and we run from -30f to 120f with it. Our oil changes go anywhere from 25,000 miles to 70,000 miles. If it were me I would change it at 35,000 miles.

We run Fleetgaurd filters. LF9080? I think that is the number. It use to be a LF9000 and then it went to a LF9001 if I remember the numbers right. We change them when we change the oil.

Not sure why anyone would think 10w30 is "strange" for recent truck engine. All, I repeat ALL, of the engine OEM's are factory filling with 10w30 now. A guy I know that bought a Prostar with an ISX early last spring, confirmed on papers with the truck it was factory filled with 10w30, and he has been using the Mobil Elite 10w30 blend ever since.

10w30 is not only a blend. 10w30 is also a conventional. Chevron, Shell, Mobil, all have 10w30 in conventional. The better is the 10w30 blends. Best of both worlds. I am using a Schaeffer Oil 10w30 blend in my factory remanned Series 60 now.

Go with the OEM recommended drain interval and maybe work it up a little at a time if you want. Normal OCI for the ISX is 30,000 miles. I wouldn't bother changing it any sooner unless you see a problem with an oil sample.

So i checked with the dealer and they said it was pre-filled with delo 10w30 synthetic blend. Since last oil change its been 10k miles and 0 oil consumption.

Same for my factory rebuilt 12.7L Series 60 with 476,000 miles on the rebuild now. No consumption on 10w30 in almost the same interval.

Well, decided to post this oil sample on the Schaeffer 10w30 syn blend I am using. Pretty darn good.
Have primarily used Schaeffer 700 15w40 syn blend in this pre-egr, factory rebuilt Detroit 60 12.7L. Thru the prodding of my Schaeffer rep, I decided to try the 711 10w30 syn blend. Was a little leery with the engine getting close to 500K miles on it. But, I gave it a shot. Not too bad of results. Numbers very close to the previous 15w40 numbers on multiple samples, except, this one shows the 711 has some pretty good levels of Zinc, Phos, Calcium, etc. More than their 15w40, and I didn't lose nearly as much TBN. Used the same amount of oil, about 2 qts over the 20K miles. Sump capacity 9.5 gallons. If this old pre-EGR Detroit on it's second time around is doing this well on 10w30, no reason for anyone else not to give it a shot. The sample results are as good or better than any I have had on 15w40.

Look at the levels of Calcium, Phosphorus and Zinc. Would make a racing engine builder drool! One killer add pack in the oil. And very strong TBN level after 20K miles. A darn good oil.

There is no doubt about the quality of lubricating oils today. That is one of the reasons why bearing rolls for pm are a thing of the past, (not trying to bring up that argument though!) I do caution you all against the extended drain intervals. No problems going a little longer, but I really have a problem with some of these 40,000+ claims. I'll be honest here. When a manufacturer says it is ok to use those longer intervals, remember they are also in the business of selling trucks! They want their trucks to look as good on paper economically as possible to fleet buyers. The cheaper the maintenance is the more trucks they sell. If you can claim 50,000+mile service intervals compared to 35,000 mile ones, the truck advertising the longer interval will get the nod! But what you need to realize is that many OEMs and fleet buyers do not care about that engine lasting more than about 6 or 7 years! That is the general turn over rate and many times shorter than that! If you want a truck engine to last longer in between inframes, you better not be doing those ultra long service intervals. If you buy a new truck and dump it after 5 years, no problem, BUT if you are buying one 5 years old and it only got an oil change when the old oil was totally worn down, you need to ask yourself how healthy really is that engine going to be for me? Personally, I do not want oil in my engine that isn't doing 100% of its job!
