As you can see, every driver is different. Each has their own system, things they will or won't put up with, etc. Also every company is different. The key is to find a company that both parties are content.
For me, the first time a dispatch called me at 10:01 on my off duty asking me why I wasn't pretripping, would have me turning my truck in asap. Trip planning is crucial. Always plan for the unexpected. Most of the time for me, I get to drive what I pick up at midnight because I'm working my 70. And that's the way I like it.
As to the "you're here to burn rubber, not site see" mentality.. First, if you're burning rubber, you're doing it wrong. Second, the reason I love what I do is because I do get to site see. Granted, for the most part, you don't get to stop and smell the roses, but they sure are nice to look at while driving by.

Rather presumptuous of you. Each driver has his own motivations for being a driver. It takes a lot of hubris for you to think you know what everyone is "out here" for.

I am on a dedicated account,.. but even so.. it is always a different day.. sometimes I can be in and out of the rail yard and the next have hiccups.. trouble in gating... or the trailer isnt off the train yet, or something that slows tne process..
I delivered to one of the caves in KC last week.. wow, the first time took me longer and drained more energy from me.. the next day I delivered two loads there.. the 3rd time took half as long as my first time and wasnt as nervous and had learned from my two prior trips.. so after I unloaded I had time and energy to go down the road and get close to my morning pick up and park for my reset..
when I was doing OTR driving 10 hours was easier to do.. on my dedicated I have more stops and more non drivi g work to do so often dont drive 10 hours a day..
So, for me it is nkt just about how many hours or miles a day I drive... I worked hard and do what I can each day.. but if I am tired and drained.. I am gonna take a break and refuel myself.. I am also gonna do what I can and ned to to pick up or deliver my loads on time... the other day, I had just enough time to get to the rail yard and drop my trailer.. only had 20 minutes left on my 14 when I was out gating... so, I requested personal drive time so I could bobtail to a safe haven for the nignt...
now, other drivers may not have pushed it like that.. but, for me, I wanted to drop that load and be readh to roll the next morning.. my fleet manager knows I am a hard worker. If I am tired and need a break he knows I am not being lazy.. let me rest and I will be ready to rock and roll..

You do realize that when delivering to the caves you can pay the hostler to take the load and paper work in deliver and bring your trailer out, did the caves once and I would agree intense, I don't know what the hostler charges but you can bet if I have to go there again I am paying that's for sure

This is totally true and exactly what I was going to say. But when I travel way out west there is so much freakin parking available and no traffic that is the only time I can actually time it down to the minute when to shut down.

Please list companies that want sight seekers. They want freight to be moved, and they don't care about your little 8.75 hrs a day so you don't burn up your 70 they want loads delivered on time. So IMHO plan on being a rubber burner rather then a sight seeker Or you can join the steering wheel holder and ex truckers hall of fame

I did a load to the caves ... I have mount for my cell phone and turned the video on to record it ... was surprised at how much I was cussing to myself.NavigatorWife Thanks this.

yeah calling one minute past your 10 is complete bull in my opinion, I dont have that issue but once in awhile the planner from my dedicated account will wake me up calling telling me my trailer is cut and ready, I just reply I am sleeping and will take care of it later, they stopped doing it after I complained and not just send a qualcomm message letting me know if its ready early.
tell me the cut time and deliver time and just leave me alone, I will start when im comfortable and it will always get there on time. -
on those caves I have heard they are a neat sight to see just a pain in the arse.
