I'm a new driver and still semi-confused on the whole rule of service hrs....What is the best way to run if you have mostly a.m. deliveries to produce the most miles in the hours allotted? If I am at a vendors waiting to unload I assume I would have to show time in sleeper berth or on duty not driving. Right? But if I show on duty then it counts in my 14 hr work day and blagh blagh scattered smothered and covered.....Is this a good example or may be you can supply one......Thanks!!!

Another driver stated on here that he liked to run roughly 8.75 hrs a day. He said this allowed one to run recap without a need for a 34 reset if you so choose to do so and not be short on hours during the recap time. I found that bit of information to be pretty helpful as long as your delivery times and load planning allows you to do so. Whoever wrote that might see this and throw in his own personal touch. Wish I could remember where I found it and I would link it to you.
What you described will take time off your 70 if it's logged as sleeper birth, but it will not take from your previous 8 day total to count toward the recap. I'm horrible at explaining this stuff. If I'm wrong someone please correct me. I too can get a bit lost in these rules at times.

Yeah, they prolly wouldn't think twice about it. lol

Here is a book that might be worth looking into:
"HOS Handbook - The Complete Guide for CMV Drivers
    J.J Keller & Associates, Inc
    ISBN 978-1-60287-997-3"

There are probably others out there as well. It's just a small handbook that helps to thoroughly mess with our heads as drivers. haha

I remember posting in that same topic but its all based on what the driver prefers. Some people like to take a 34 weekly and get their laundry, shopping etc done during that day while some prefer to just keep rolling. The longest I ran without taking a 34 was almost 2 months but sometimes it can get difficult not having the hours.

    TAC12 and Razor3 Thank this.
