How many bags or ounces is used in an 11R 24.5? Have you ever used a homemade alternative?

10oz for low profile 22.5, so maybe a little more. I bought a small bucket of Esco balancing beads and measured my weights. Lot cheaper than bags. I think I've seen a weight chart on the internet. I am pretty sure all brands have same weights. I'd be reluctant to use anything "homemade." Hard to imagine you'd save much money and you have to make sure the material can't absorb moisture.

I always used counteract ceramic beads in my tires. One bag per tire i think they're 12 oz? I'd shop vac them out when the tire was worn out, weigh and put them in a sandwich bag, then drop that inside the new tire. Just recycling them over and over. They have guidelines on the bag for max weight to use. Seems like it was no more than 16oz at most. If you need more than that you've got a tire or wheel problem and not something balancing will cure.

There’s a product that I’am going to try my NAPA dealer can get it I just saw it at a tool show it comes in a bucket you pump x amount of oz per your tire size and it acts as a balancer and sealant it’s not supposed to get gummy or slimy the guy claims there fleets that use this faithfully it cost about 15.00 for a 11x24:5 tall tire I’ll have to do some digging to find the product name

I've seen stuff like that. Omaha Freightliner sells a product. I don't know about any of that stuff. But I have had Fix-A-Flat hardens like cement and stick to my car wheel. Had to chisel off.

3/4 of our trucks have a steering axle shake in winter for the first 30 minutes of driving every morning. The ones balanced with weights don’t shake . I personally think if you’re truck gets parked inside often in winter it gets condensation in the tires and the beads clump up till tire gets warm.. in warmer weather I don’t get the shake at all.

I’ve broke down several steers that had what looked like, white sand in them. Would regular clean sand, in a thin ziplock, do the same?

Sounds like your talking about Equal. What ever that sandy stuff is, it works. But I'd heard sand like from a beach would absorb moisture.

A few pints of cheap antifreeze works great ... a lot less expensive and not nearly as messy as balance beads.

Centramatic Balance rings work great as well, but they're pricey. I run top tier steer tires, do not get them balanced, and just run centramatic's ... and get better than 175k ish miles out of michelin x line energy z's driving the speed limit out west and hauling smooth bore tank ... which is hard on tires.

I also run about a quart of antifreeze in each drive and trailer tire and live a wondrous life of no tire vibration.

I had to replace a tire in Northern Idaho this summer and they use that in all truck tires. Can't remember the name either, but I can find out with a phone call.
