Hit some large bumps and power went away. Dealer says it a $35 tube on top of the compressor? Maybe a valve inside also. They do t have the part and won't for 1 maybe 2 days. I was expecting a boost sensor? Part attached below. Anybody know enough to say yea or ney?
Thanks.![]()

Some engines supply the air to the compressor intake after the turbo charger. So if it is boosted air going to the compressor, and that part broke, then you could be loosing boost and power to the engine.
blairandgretchen and AModelCat Thank this. -
OK. Did not know that.

Well. 2 days at Premier Truck group in Knoxville and I'm $1600 US, $2100 CDN... lighter in the pocket and fixed it myself.
I wanted to take a tech for a ride with the lap top right off the bat and he could see what was happening as it happene. They said no, the diagnoses happens in the shop. THIS IS WHEN I SHOULD HAVE LEFT. MISTAKE NUMBER 1.
They changed the pipe above. I was unsure this was the problem and my mechanic at home said no way it would leak enough to cause the huge loss of power I described and not make any noise. I heard a small whistle a few months ago and I New I had an air leak when my manifold cracked so no way I missed that.
The tech over pressurized the system when checking it and blew the gasket out, the pipe was actually OK when they got it off...... They said I had the air leak for a long time so it needed to be fixed anyway..... So. $950 paid and no love.
He had to remove the intake to make room to get behind the compressor to get to it.....
So....Now instead of the truck being dead no power and occasionally kicking in after hitting bumps, it has full boost/power and occasionally kicks OUT after hitting bumps.
This is where I go wrong for the second time. I didn't stop and think for myself. Or call my MECHANIC .
Anyway they say they now can put it on the dyno and now that the air leak is fixed they can figure out the boost issue... I let them.
$950 later they have no idea. It kicked out once on the dyno for a couple seconds and other than that ran like a champ... they relent as I'm telling them the dyno can't simulate bumps and send a tech out for a ride. It works perfect.
The tech says I need a turbo.... turbo is 9 months old....
I pay and leave.
On the way to get my trailer it craps out again. I go to bed. Company has now sent another truck to rescue my load as its now late. So I lose revenue.
Next morning I drive it and it works pretty good but cuts out a couple times as I hit bumps.
Call my mechanic home he listens to whole thing and tells me to THINK.
why did it change so much from BEFORE he had the intake off to after...
no boost kicks IN over bumps before, then...
AFTER he had the intake off, boost working great, cuts OUT after hitting bumps. What's there he disturbed.... boost sensor. (See my first post from 2 days before..gut...)
I took it apart. Cleaned the connection.
Bob tailed from Knoxville to Beaver dam OH. Not one hiccup.
ALWAYS go with your gut. If you have no codes and a computer can't tell these new MECHANICS what's wrong and you think they are going in the wrong direction. Follow your gut. Might save you 2k.
End of story.Last edited: Mar 30, 2018

Premier in ktown? Are they an independent or major dealership? My opinion 1 hr labor either correct diagnosis apply to repair or pay and leave what a bunch of crooks sorry to hear about your misfortune been there I know it’s easy to say but if a person had time they might have a small claims case but it all comes down to the work order authorization I’ll remember premier and pass it along these places need to get the reputation they deserve and why the hell they couldn’t pull up an old boost code is weird at least you didn’t break the bolt off when pulling sensor that’s happened to me before
Elroythekid Thanks this. -
They could have taken the air compressor off wader what book time is vs intake I had the same prob w hose going to comp it’s in a tight spot lost almost all boost as it draws filtered boosted air from intake they could have capped intake and left comp open to air and drove truck to check power what a bunch of incompetent crooks never trust a service manager that’s his job most of them aren’t even mechanically inclined the mechanic can’t help what he don’t know. But the shop charges you like he’s a 30 yr master mechanic. Hate to see people get ripped off it’s all I hear anymore especially on emission crap That’s like me saying I took a roughy thinking it would save fuel but got detoured enroute so now I’m going to charge for all the extra fuel and time because I meant well but was wrong I don’t think that would work haven’t been so mad since the hospital charged me $63.00 for an aspirin same thing robbery

I am a motorcycle mechanic in a past life. Left that industry as up north we got laid off every winter and when the mid eighty slow down happened a lot if shops went south. I still buy and sell and restore old kawasaki's and I work on cars. I did a head rebuild on a mid 2000's 7 series BMW with variable cam timing and the vanos system. I'm not a truck mechanic, but I'm not stupid. And I have assess to 2 great mechanics at home. I need the Detroit ddeck 3 software with me in the truck so I can diagnose make my own decisions and fix it myself or take it somewhere and say. Replace that. If I'm wrong so be it. My mistake. I can live with that. I hate being treated like an idiot where I maybe have better troubleshooting skills that the guy I'm paying.

I agree 100% never once thought you to be an idiot I assumed you were just blowing off steam I try to do everything I can but sometimes you neee a good shop I recently changed an injector myself 2 nd time just out of necessity ie lack of funds I would also like to get that software I really should have been trying to learn more over the years there’s a YouTube 10 part series of an old farmer who does his own in frame pretty interesting Check it out I would like to attempt it myselfElroythekid Thanks this.

I watched every part of that! He asked questions when he didn't know and got it done. None of these guys are going to split the atom anytime soon. If your mechanically inclined you can and will figure it out.
I'm just kicking myself in the ### I didn't walk away when they wouldn't put the guy in the truck with laptop right off the bat. That way I controlled the diagnostic. Live and learn.. $$$$$$ -
And just for a follow up.. I'm on my 4th load now, one from Ohio to Toronto, Toronto to Kingston, Kingston to Montreal, and Montreal headed home. Zero issues. Trust your gut... it will save you money...
baha Thanks this.
