Also, while talking about ink, I have found that you are much better off buying NEW printer cartridges, than trying to use refilled ones. I'm sure there must be some printer somewhere, that works well with recycled cartridges, I just haven't found it yet.

How big or small of an inverter does it take to run a printer scanner
-
This little thing runs mine. Not sure of the watt's but it's not very many.

I guess that's simple enough. Thank you to everybody that responded.MJ1657 Thanks this.

I use a USB power scanner & a battery powered cannon printer
The printer will print about 400 pages before rechargingCAXPT Thanks this. -
I use a Canon Pixma ip110 printer. Its small and pretty durable. I had the Pixma ip100 for almost 5 years before this one and it still works fine even with many falls in the truck. The only reason I got a new one is because I wanted to print directly from my Android phone or tablet instead of hooking up the computer all the time.
For scanning I use an app on my phone called TinyScanner. It takes a picture and allows you to resize and line it up before converting it into a PDF.
I have an inverter in my truck but it only needs about 30Watts max to run so even the smallest one in the truck stops would run it.
They even make a battery that fits it so you can just charge it and use it 100% wireless.
While this one is probably at the top of the price range for a printer it's more than paid for itself already in just a couple months. At $2+ per page for faxing permits and other paperwork at a truck stop its not really that hard to justify a $150 purchase that will work for years to come.

We tried printer/scanner combo units in a few of our other trucks and found that the ink cartridges were just not holding up in them for some reason. They were also quite large in comparison and took up too much space inside the bunk for my liking. As the last of those units die the trucks will likely be upgraded to these instead.Last edited: Dec 1, 2016
CAXPT Thanks this. -
I use a 300 W inverter. Don't buy an oddball printer, buy something really common. That way, when you are in the middle of the Montana wilderness you still stand a good chance of getting ink... because that's where you will run out. The last one I used is a HP 2540. I had a Lexmark something before that. I leave the printer and ink (including spares) in the truck year-round from +100 to -40 and I've never had a problem, but YMMV.
CAXPT Thanks this. -
I have a scanning app on my iPhone. Makes things a lot easier. Converts to pictures, pdf, jpeg, and something else.
Send POD soon as you have one, scan and send pod/Bol rate cons and invoices all in one quick email. -
Yeah, for scanning I use CamScanner (Android).
