From 5 lo to 5 hi, just flip the switch. From 5 hi to 6 lo, I'd flip the switch in neutral. Basically anytime the stick is moved, I'd split in neutral.

I was only taught on a ten. The 13 and 18 are starting to make more sense now. Then along comes the 8 and 9LL.

Everybody seems to have different wording. When you say 5 lo do you mean just five or five direct like Eaton refers to it as

5 direct, I believe is what it's technically called.

I would always downshift the same way I upshift in regards to the splitter. The only difference being that I would change the RPMs as is necessary to downshift.

I have a 13 and when I'm carrying a light load (<20,000), I typically drive it like a 9 speed on flat ground, up and down shifting.

When pulling loads closer to 80k, I'll use the splitter on a regular basis. Downshifting with the splitter can be a pain, but you get used to it. It's just hard to do everything exactly right when you're heavy, going downhill, on the jake, and splitting.

This is how it was in the 13 spd OD trans I had. Shift pattern was, Low range side, L, 1,2,3, 4, High range side 5direct,5overdrive,6d, 6od, 7d, 7od, 8d, 8od. The only time L gear was used was for a heavy load taking off uphill. Shift 1,2,3,4 on the Low side, don't use the splitter. Flip the range button up for the high side, make sure the splitter button is in direct, come back through neutral to where 2nd was on the low side, this is 5 direct, move the splitter switch to overdrive, let off the accelerator and it will shift to 5 overdrive. To go to 6 direct, shift up to 6 and just before you step on the gas again flip the splitter back to direct. 7 and 8 are the same. To downshift from overdrive to direct just move the switch from od to d, let off the gas and step on it again. To go 1 gear lower preselect od on the splitter and shift down to the next gear. To downshift to the low side just make sure the splitter is in direct, move the range selector to low and come back through neutral to 4. It sounds complicated but its not.
