Wait to you get a new truck. Unless you blow your tranny ........then swap it if you really want to keep yours.

Unless your 100k plus often, or offroad a 13 speed is more than enough.
Personally I found about 130-140 gross the difference in a like truck on road. At that point, you needed help starting out. -
New eaton clutch, rear main seal, surface flywheel, shorten driveshaft, shifter handle, 13/18 speed rtlo, misc ujoints, exhaust, rear motor mounts, starter, and add a cooler that you might not have? Rebuilt worn linkage?
Does the rear structure need resealed? Or soon.
12k is rich, but not that far off. I would hope for 9ish or 10. For a quality job.
7k to slammer together with parts. -
jamespmack Thanks this.

To do a proper job. Nobody wants to do a rear main 6 months later.Flint1, Cat sdp, AModelCat and 1 other person Thank this. -
I mean I could do it for 4500 cash. Nothing will be new. Nothing, we are reusing oil at this point.
spsauerland and AModelCat Thank this. -
I talked to my buddy yesterday at his shop. He has a local trans and diff shop rebuild for him. They charge him $80-100 a gear for rebuilds. Depends on parts needed. So an 18 speed will still be under $2k rebuilt.
