I don't think I understand the 10 hours during the 14.can you start each day at the same time? If you started at 6:00 am and stopped at 8:00pm couldn't you just rest and sleep during the night?

while i agree the intention had nothing to do with earning potential, i still maintain it did the opposite of what it intended. it makes the roads less safe in my opinion. it encourages drivers to drive tired...either you get your 11 hours in within that 14 hour window, or you drive less that day. doing away with split logging (for the most part) did away with the responsible driver's ability to decide for himself when he needed to rest, and for how long.
in the days before this stupid rule came into effect, if i was tired after 5 hours...after 8 hours, or after 2 hours, i could stop and go to the sleeper berth. when i was no longer tired, i could resume my trip. if this meant i took a 4 hour break, thats what i did. of course, i still do. but im sure there are "unfit" (as in too tired) drivers out there every day, making sure to maximize their hours at the expense of taking a needed nap. and that is at least in part the fault of the fmcsa for this ridiculous rule.Myoneload, poppapump1332, mje and 1 other person Thank this. -
it means nothing, just get in that truck and deliver that load.

the 10 hours is whats considered your time off to rest. after driving for 11 hours or hitting the 14th hour...you must take 10 hours off to drive again. usually you'll hit your 14 hours when you pick up or deliver. like yesterday i spent total of 4 hours at my delivery and pick up places. so i could only drive 10 hours. there,s really no set schewdule with this job. depends on when you pick up the load amd how tight the schedule is. load i"m on now picked up taday and delivers on monday.. so i can drive during the day. as long as theres no issues on the way. its pretty easy to understand once you know the rule. there,s also the 70 hour rule which means you can't work over 70 hours in a 8 day period. i won" go into split berthing.NavigatorWife and mje Thank this.

Ok I'm lost, if you took 4hours how can you drive 10 hours? I thought 11was total?
-
You have 14 hours from the start of your day to complete 11 hours of driving. So you have three hours for breaks, lunch, restrooms, loading/delivering, naps.. etc...

Or they can sit you on your ### for 32 hrs waitin on a load so you don't get a fresh 70 AND you don't get a fresh 70. But at least it was on your short 7 hr day so now you have one extra hour per day on your recap this week which means you can run pretty hard and make up the time... Still a bored trucker for 27 hrs and 39 minutes...
mje Thanks this. -
