I agree that the change has been counter-productive. I used to stop and take a half hour nap if I got groggy. If I was well ahead of schedule on my load I would sometimes stop at a nice rest area and just relax or take a walk. None of that kind of nonsense anymore. It's just keep driving or you're not going to get in a full day of driving.

Sooooo, you take a five or eight hour walk?

Blame the few drivers who ran into/over minivans full of kids for the HOS rules. Not the government.

You can't, unless 1 or more of those on duty hours comes after your 11 driving.

You got 14 hours to do 11 hours worth of driving. Last time I was in math class, that leaves 3 hours to take a nap, or a walk. Are the new breed of truckdrivers not able to do simple math, these days?

thats the same attitude thats gotten us the latest gun control squawk. if only we let the government make some more laws, then everything will be rainbows, lollipops and unicorns. more regulations dont often equal a better society. so...nope. not gonna blame a handful of awful drivers for over regulation, not to mention regulations that make the industry less safe. thats all on the government.

What you have failed to see, is that the government/public was FORCED to make laws due to the few morons.

Ok say you start your day at 6AM, You are allowed to drive for 11 hours. You start at 6 and you have to stop at 5PM. You have 4 hours to jack around. Shower, clean the truck, etc. You go to sleep at 9. You take your 10 and you start again at 7AM.

No. As soon as you are off duty your ten hours non-driving starts. You can drive again at 3am.

If you did 11 hours of straight driving, you do not have to wait for your 14 to expire before starting your ten hour rest.

The same as if you only did 4 hours driving. Once you can shut down, your ten hour reset starts. Sometimes you can get your ten hour reset while being loaded. Ten and a half actually, since you have to log a half hour loading.

If you stop at 5pm and do nothing more that involves being on-duty, you can start your 10 off then. Taking a shower is off duty, not on duty. So, you could go back on duty at 3am.
