I'm with you Steve. My driving instructor told me about this handy little piece of software. No matter how many times it gets explained it's still not completely clear. Too easy to make a mistake. I will be getting it soon as I am able.

You've got my curiosity! Is it too late to post what you did after the last two hours in the sleeper? The missing information is what could make it legal or illegal.
So, he counts the second to last hour in his 14th hour & doesn't need to mention the other hour unless he goes back on duty afterwards - not driving of course.
idefinitely seems rather long/too open ended to me!
How much is that "Driver's Daily Log Program"? -
They have a 60 day trial period and to purchase the full version (which you will need if the company requires a specific log form to be used) $95.00.

This is not true. You can still split break, however they changed the split breaking rules and many companies and drivers state it's not worth splitting anymore and again this is a false statement. MHO!
It's lack of understanding of the split breaking and training on it.
If they would just "help me" train you guys/ladies then maybe it would not be so difficult and drivers would see it's so simple to do and very usefull!
Ok, that's me preaching again

Many companies in the USA ask you to stay under the USA regulations, however it is legal to follow the Canadian rules while in Canada and USA rules while in USA. It's just to complicated many times to train on their rules and USA rules to always be in compliance when crossing the border. Many Candians do follow under both rules

No that is not legal!
This is the easiest way to explain the "14 hour rule"
Once you enter lines 3 or 4 after a 10 hour consecutive break (start legally)
count over 14 hours on the log clock and make a mark up there on the log clock.
Example:
I go on line 4 # 9:00 am , I need to count over 14 hours which would make my 14 hour end # 11:00 pm the same day. Now you CAN NOT "DRIVE" Passed 11:00 pm unless you have an 8 hour SLEEPER break and claim you are split breaking (different subject).
The 14 hour is very very simple: It's like clocking in and 14 hours later you must clock out, unless you split break.
Now what you could of done is taken an 8 hour sleeper break at the end of your 14 hour and started a split break since you did have a 2 hour break before your 14 hour ended. Keep in mind the 2 hour break DOES NOT EXTEND OR STOP THE CLOCK.
When split breaking you always reset the 14 hour from the end of the 8 or 2 hour break (the breaks can be longer, but neither can be shorter than 8 or 2= no more 5 & 5 etc).
Go to the Regulations forumn and look at the stickies and I have a split breaking example and it tells you EXACTLY what to do from the beginning to after the 2nd break how to calculate the 14 & 11 hour and you follow steps A,B & C until you take a 10 hour consecutive break.
I know the question wasn't about split breaking, however I see it is a topic now
