Anyone that drops a trailer WITHOUT a post insp are the ones that drop trailers with flat tires and/or brake problems. Everyone here has picked up a trailer with a flat or a broken air line or similiar that the next guy had to deal with and would not have had to deal with IF the previous driver had did his job, which is doing a post trip. You cannot do a D/H properly under 30 minutes., considering everything involved, including paperwork.

I would run to line 4, show new trailer number and log 15 or 30 minutes, however long it took to get the axles right. Pre trip the trailer also... amazing how the lights seem to blow out just when you hook your electrical up.

Usually if you are under 7 min you round down. Over 8 minutes you route up. So, if it is 8:07 you start at the whole hour. If 8:08, then you start at the 15 minute mark.

Yes that is what im saying . A written inspection report is done when ? at the end right wich is a post trip. Im not at all saying that you don't need to do a pre trip i was just saying that it needed to be listed on the post trip report and its the only form that dot requires you to fill out, Other than listing it on the flag. And some will argue that the post trip is inspecting it before you drive .Lol

Before driving a vehicle, the driver must spend a minimum of 15 minutes inspecting the vehicle and must be satisfied that the vehicle is in safe operating condition. The driver must spend a minimum of 30 minutes reviewing the previous day's written inspection report to be sure any noted defects have been corrected. The previous day's inspection report must be carried in the vehicle. Prior to the dispatch of a vehicle, the carrier must repair any defects that may affect safety.

A minimum of 30 minutes reviewing the post trip from the previous day ??? I hope my safety department never reads this . :biggrin_25524:

Where are you getting these quotes? The regulations themselves (392.7, 396.11) do not read like that. They do not specify the amount of time pre-trips or post-trips are supposed to take.

I would be very interested to find out what publication you are getting these from. Please post back with your source.

You dont need to mark 15 minutes for a post trip inspection but it has to be flagged. It is assumed that you are doing a walkaround at each stop and you are driving a legal vehicle. A pre-trip has to be done on each piece of equipment you are driving or towing (trailer) and has to be a minimum of 15 minutes so a drop and hook should be at least 15 minutes each time.

There is no time requirement specified for a pre-trip (or post-trip) in the FMCSA regulations. Company policies may dictate otherwise.
