And why is college expensive? Because of government manipulation of the tuition loans. Loans are guaranteed by the government. When you guarantee a price will be paid, no matter, the price goes up, no matter. The price of college today is not driven by student demand, it's driven by cash guaranteed by the government. When you flood a market with "cash" that can only be used to buy a certain product, guess what. The price of the product goes through the roof. There is no need for colleges to be thrifty or frugal or price conscious. The government has guaranteed (enabled) they can be as ridiculous as they want, with no consequences.

This is a prime example of crony capitalism where the government picks winners and losers, and as a price, colleges must adopt curriculums that are very dangerous and only promote pro big-government and anti-capitalism ideals ... (such as the topic of this post) hence the cycle continues, and the big-government noose tightens around more necks.

Some fathers don't stick around obviously. This happens quite often.
But you use yourself as an example....how long ago was this? 20 years ago? Maybe more? Im sure the cost of living is significantly higher now from when you raised children on $8 an hour, yet the same job pays the same today.

We have a problem with wages being to low. Inflation has outpaced wages by a long shot. Wages have went nowhere the past 40 years, yet the cost of living has skyrocketed since then. Along with ceo compensation and corporate profits.

I think the minimum wage should get someone the minimum needed to live. You want better living from there, then you would have to seek a better job.
This would take a lot of people off gov aid and boost our economy.

I graduated high school in 2001 and got a job driving a forklift in a warehouse making $16.50 two years later I was at top scale of $18.50... I can't see how driving a truck in 2016 could pay the same as that... That's crazy

I graduated high school in 1990, landed a $10/hr forklift job immediately. By '91 I was training for my CDL, in '92 I made a little over $12/hr plus OT and benefits as a local delivery guy. I see Class A Driving Jobs in my area for $13-14/hr being posted TODAY. It's crazy how we've failed to keep up, isn't it?

I'm fortunate to have my job, 80+k and full benefits, home daily. But I often wonder what I'd do if something happens here, the "Pickens" are slim!

I know it.Here the driving pays on exp.But there are also driving jobs that pay 13.00 to 14.00 an hr depending on the company. Some are real cheap and explains why they can't keep drivers.I know of two side dump companies that pay all drivers the same13.00 an hr and no raises everAmother company pays 14.00 to 20.00 an hr depending on exp.An LTL company pays 19.00 an hr.Then you get other local jobs that pay by the load or salary.Ray has been kb 12 yrs and only received two raises.I don't look for him to get anymore raises from kb.A tanker outfit here pays all their drivers 16.00 an hr and nothing more. Then another local tanker pays by the mile.It really does depend on the company and what type of hauling you do.

    I say that I haven't had a raise in 20 years......

Been doing the same program all that time . We used to make a good wage, and be respected . Not any more.

Yes rates have gone up but the costs/bs factor have gone up faster.

I'm nearer the end , and pretty well established . So I'll hang in . But I feel sorry for the newbees.
