It's only 16 hours if the driver takes two hours of break time during their 14 hours of on duty time. A nice long lunch, a nap, a little afternoon delight, read a book... It's all good; no stress.
Having run extensively in both Canada and the U.S., I find it far more relaxing up here. Even though we can work longer hours, we don't necessarily have to or do because of our more flexible HOS. It is also more relaxing and somewhat necessary due to longer distances, especially between service areas.
Plus, I don't know of any McDonald's workers making $120,000-$150,000. I even know a few drivers making ~$200,000. That's driver pay, not truck revenue.

I drive in Canada as well and I like it I would need to see paycheck stubs or account info to believe 200,000 that's 16000 a month 8000 per driver working the max 70 hours a week they average around $70 an hour if my math is correct. What company is this that pays 7o an hour And if your talking owner operators save it I don't believe they bank 200000 a year not even close.
Pinner Thanks this. -
My brother is making 32.50 in the oilfields and his checks are impressive the hours are long but he gets paid by the hour and that's all I'm saying if we are working then we should be getting paid. My company is good about this and they don't want to pay me for 16 hours a day.
-
I get paid hourly so I don't mind sometimes stretching the hours out. When I was on the highway though..you're correct. Working for free!

I couldn't care less about whether you believe it or not.jerezxp7 Thanks this.

One thing he's not considering is lots of drivers in the oilfield get paid whether they sit or work. So really a guy could work 100 hours a week. My old boss makes 55 plus overtime. And double after 12 hours

Guys working camp jobs. Or, like my drivers were paid, a combination of percentage and hourly.
-
Yea that is true that's what my brother does 32.50 an hour lots of overtime
and he almost has me.convinced it's the way.to go my company is better then most and I still find myself working to many 14 hour days it's ridiculous tarping and load securement. Do not pay enough I make plenty per mile but if I'm not on top of my company about non driving hours worked it would be a.joke. No offense your not suppose to care if I believe you who cares what I think . Forgive me for being skeptical about drivers talking money. -
On big inch pipeline, a lowbed driver doesn't have a problem grossing $30,000.00 a month.
When bidding big inch. 12 hr. days 6n days a week including sub, bennies etc. The driver cost me $112.89 per hour based on 40 ST Time and half 8 - 10 hours and Double time 10 to 12 per week and sub paid 7 days a week.
Lowbed drivers usually average 14-15 hour days on the clock.
Heck, the pension alone is $7.00 per hour ST, $10.50 OT and $14.00 DT.Last edited: May 24, 2015

Being skeptical is fine... to be encouraged, even. I just get cranky when the first response is basically "not possible" or even "liar" (not exactly what you said, but it has been suggested before). In part you're right... a typical OTR or local driver will never see that kind of money. Ever. But, there are jobs out there that do pay big dollars. It's a good reason to keep your license and record clean, work hard, pay attention, network, etc. I'm not saying that all those big-money jobs are the holy grail either and a high five-figure income for slamming doors is okay. And you are absolutely right about value your time and contribution and make sure you're getting paid what you're worth.jerezxp7 Thanks this.
