Ok, well, go back and read his original post... ...at that time we had no idea what the freight was. I mean you could take that to mean "everything out here pays $10 a mile" .... jet engine to a grounded jet - ok so those are picking up and delivering all around every one of us?? Very specialized stuff it just don't happen every day... or maybe it does just not anywhere near me, or it never would if I had the equipment....

 

It's like charging normal market rates for a FEMA load. A niche load and they got sold by the broker on look how light this is and $2 a mile is a great rate to CA on 900 miles" then when they realized how badly they missed the boat.... and of course everything out here pays 10x the going rates to brokers...

 

You will like this one. How do you think a BCO hauling dedicated AA&E freight for the only AA&E agent out of Tucson AZ could buy his wife a new Ferrari for her birthday? Do you think he managed that on $2 freight?

 

I also told you about coils paying $7.00 a mile ten years ago. How specialized is a steel coil?

 

I guess I am going to get to wrap this one up. You are going to to get out of truck driving what you expect. If you think you are going to make $2.00 then you will settle for that. If you think you can do better you will strive for that. A freight brokers job is to call a shipper and tell him how much it is going to cost them to move a load. Then he calls the truck and tells him why it is so cheap (light load, easy load, 1 pick 1 drop, thats all it pays, I have heard them all). That's it . You have got to figure out where you fit in to it all.

 

I figured that one out a long time ago and refused to settle for cheap rates to a dry van. I push aggressive on rates you're preaching to the choir. But there's a world of cheap freight pushin mothers out there and I do sit quite a bit for my refusal to haul for less than nothing that's almost every load out here....

 

I've hauled for Frank and Rita many times and am very familiar with their rates, out of Tucson, for a certain DOD Contractor. Those Conestogas running dedicated, do have good rates, but, they do run their butts off, doing that.
He didn'y make that money, for the car in one or two years, it took awhile.
As others have said, there are niches that pay very well. However, niche freight is not everyday, available everyone.

Super loads will pay thousands, but it also costs thousands to have the right equipment, to move them. A Diamond Heavy Haul trailer costs hundreds of thousands to build, so no, it doesn't haul two or three dollar freight.
