160 hours vs 60 hours

Tech or community college is your best option. Better training and lower cost. I attended a 320 hr tech college class for $2500.00

 

That 160 hr course is worth like 6 months experience to a lot of company's. I did a short course and it really limited my job opportunities , kicking myself for going the cheap route.

 

I attended a 300hr course at a Vocational Community College which cost me less than $3k. Highly recommended, as those who previously mentioned, is to find a less expensive training course which maximizes the training hours, small class (only 5 in mine) size which will help you get the training experience and miles (i got over 1,200 in skewl alone).

 

you know how much it cost me to get my cdl... like 400 bucks... went to dmv tooks tests... went and rented semi at driving test place and passed that one... lol

Found a company dieing for a drivers to teach me some things put me on the road...
there we are done deal...

10k for school... their nuts.. no freaking way.. My semi only costed me 10k that I drive everyday now.

 

At 10, 000 you could travel to a school. Stay in a reasonable hotel motel and go back home when your done.

 

I did a 10 week course through the local community college for 3,100 + DL fee's and Med card. Evening class was like 2,800. Only other option would have been taking the quick and dirty more expensive option paying 4,100 for a 4 week class that doesn't cover a lot of the regulations and odds and ends you'll need to be aware of.

To each path their own. I'm glad I went with the 'longer' option. It left me more prepared once I finally found employment.

That was why I chose the longer and less-expensive option also. The experiences I gained in training definitely prepared me for some unusual circumstances for my first driving employment.

For example: while in CDL skewl, I drove several canyons (with inclines, declines, and awesome turns)....one of my first loads routed me on US-89 (UT, NV & AZ). I was driving at night and would have been scared $%!+less but because of skewling I was able to keep calm, slow, and the rig between the lines.

I went to a Community College in NC for my CDL. JCC Truck Driver Training School
384 hrs and $1200 with the books.

Sampson County CC in NC has a similar course that's $500

Must hold a NC drivers license

 

Yes, NC really backs and underwrites a lot of the costs of a CDL via their Community Colleges... equipment looks awesome as well... wish I had waited until we got to NC to get my CDL ... but 20/20 hindsight.

 

I am currently at Cape Fear Community College it is 384 hours and about $1200. I graduate December 8th. A very great program I might add.
