166-3650 cooling nozzles alignment

Hey all, just piecing together my 3406 with the IPD 2 piece piston kit. Bought cheap aftermarket cooling nozzles and they don’t fit with out sanding the sides of the base down. Anyone know if that’s normal for the 166-3650 cooking nozzles or is this a bad fit because of aftermarket?
Also in my service manual it talks about aligning the nozzle with a cat special tool. Anyone ever do this or is it not that critical where the oil ends up spraying? These cheap nozzles aren’t all aligned exactly the same.
Might have to just order cat ones.

Okay thanks, I think I’ll order cat ones. Have you ever done the alignment procedure that cat talks about? I had never heard about that until I read it in my service manual

That’s a good point wore out. I’ll do it that way and it’ll be good enough for who it’s for

 

I wish more people had your mentality when it comes to working on other peoples stuff. Around here there’s still a couple small shops I trust but unfortunately none of them know much about 3406’s. But doing it myself isn’t bad and I’ve definitely learned a lot for next time.
