Hey all, just piecing together my 3406 with the IPD 2 piece piston kit. Bought cheap aftermarket cooling nozzles and they don’t fit with out sanding the sides of the base down. Anyone know if that’s normal for the 166-3650 cooking nozzles or is this a bad fit because of aftermarket?
Also in my service manual it talks about aligning the nozzle with a cat special tool. Anyone ever do this or is it not that critical where the oil ends up spraying? These cheap nozzles aren’t all aligned exactly the same.
Might have to just order cat ones.
Any input appreciated!

Bad fit. Ran into that earlier this year. Bought a set of CAT and they went right in. I think CTP brand is what needed sanded down.

Okay thanks, I think I’ll order cat ones. Have you ever done the alignment procedure that cat talks about? I had never heard about that until I read it in my service manual

Yikes I’m not paying $5800 for the tool lol. I haven’t found the actual procedure yet but I’m hoping there’s another way

Take a couple of brake clean straws. Insert them carefully in the tubes and make sure they hit the piston in the proper place. Line them up and make sure they all look the same. For what you’re doing you can have success without taking every step I do. Remember if I have a boo boo I have to eat it and suffer the consequences. When you’re building your own engine you only have to suit yourself. I don’t mean just slap it together and hope as I know no one likes to do things twice and theirs still expenses involved etc. I’m just saying you only have to convince yourselfFeedman and Big Road Skateboard Thank this.

That’s a good point wore out. I’ll do it that way and it’ll be good enough for who it’s forBig Road Skateboard and wore out Thank this.

My Dad used to say good enough for the girls we go with. I’ll be honest I skip a lot of steps on my personal stuff that i wouldn’t even think about skipping on yours. I only have to live with myself on mine. Yours I’m responsible for you brought here to insure without doubt it’s right so it has to be

I wish more people had your mentality when it comes to working on other peoples stuff. Around here there’s still a couple small shops I trust but unfortunately none of them know much about 3406’s. But doing it myself isn’t bad and I’ve definitely learned a lot for next time.Big Road Skateboard and wore out Thank this.
