We've got one trailer with 215s and tires will blow like crazy if loaded and running 70 mph. If you keep it 65 mph or below and they do ok. If you run 70+, you'll never wear a tire out
We've got another trailer with 235s. They seem to take 70 mph ok. That trailer also has a tire inflation setup on it. I think the larger tire plus the auto inflation makes a big difference.

I'm looking at the Continental tires and they have a whole selection that are 245/75R 17.5. I'm trying to figure out which is the best one for my trailer.
Wondering which would be the best ply code. They have "J", and "H". -
H is a.16 ply where the J is a 20.ply.

I found that they leaked and the valves didn't work very well when we blew a tire the one next to it would lose air too. They also would misread and give drivers a false sense of security where they wouldn't check tire pressure regularly. Don't get me wrong they worked pretty good on my trailer but I'm pretty anal about tire pressure, except for losing air when a tire blew.Landincoldfire, Ruthless, KANSAS TRANSIT and 3 others Thank this.

Trailer has drums or disk brakes?
Also make the first axle a lift axle.

Drum brakes. I don't know what is involved with making 1 axle lift. Expensive? I was planning on running tandem when light.

I doubt you could get a first axle lift with as low as you want your deck height, I know on my lowboys they was only about 3.5 inches of suspension until you were into the stops.Hegemeister and Ruthless Thank this. -
How handy are you at doing it yourself?

When empty there is less stress on a airbag.
Add a small short airpiston to the levelingvalve.
Connect the airpiston to the system you use to block the first axle.
When you lift the first axle ,the airpiston will raise the airbags off the second axle just enough to make the tires off the first axle be high enough without stressing the airbags off the second axle.Hegemeister and KANSAS TRANSIT Thank this. -
Understand, I just know that with my setup if I would/could have raised the axle I was afraid that I would have flat spotted the tires dragging them over high spots and dips in the road.daf105paccar Thanks this. -

The little extra height makes all the difference.
