Never mind.... You only use it on initial time of putting it in gear.
    My bad.

Umm while the drawing is comical.. This is like others said false information... If you have driven an 18speed you would know that is goes LL-L -1L-1H -2L-2H -3L-3H -4L-4H high range 5L-5H -6L-6H -7L-7H -8L-8H

Back when I drove hauling magnetite into the mines we had 13 spd trans and would go from 5 hi to the lo lo hole while still in hi only to make a short run topping a steep grade to keep from splitting down to 4 lo. I wouldn't recommend pulling long periods like that though. Not sure on a 18.

That little old big cam stomped the poor B model at the last pulled I hooked both of them at, though I did burn a valve it was fun while it lasted.

Would be the same setup only the 18 splits the low side.

Yeah with the 18 it's kinda pointless to make that shift b/c the ratios are very close to overlapping so you don't gain anything by going into that hole. There's nothing wrong with it and it won't hurt the tranny, but very little benefit if any.

I did it by mistake in my carriers truck. My truck is 10 spd,.. I truly loath the 10 spd. Is what it is. Getting back on the 18 I was in heaven. But after almost 3 yrs straight on the 10 speed,.. I was so used to swinging over to the bottom left,.. and it is a gear,.. it feel like its in between 4Hi and 5Lo. Never tried it purposely,.. but have hit it twice out of ritual 10 spd habit. No grinding or anything,.. falls right into place. I float gears as well.

Well anyone who had done it either purposely or mistakenly seem to say there is no benefit..... Therefore no purpose in doing it then.... Like I said I have never done it and have never had a need to do it...

It's nice to know it doesn't any real benefit...

    I
I wouldn't see any benefit in a 18 but it does have a little effect on a 13. In my late teenage years I drive quite a few smaller trucks with 5 spd trans and a 2 spd rear end. When shifting with a heavy load you could split shift the trans and rear until you got to 4 LO then shift to 5 LO then shift to 4 HI and on into 5 HI, between 5 LO and 4HI you only get about a 200 rpm drop but sometimes it's enough to take you on.
