Yup, you are correct, but then there this type https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&sou...XLYAbY0v7xmkF36YZQ&ust=1453131299630076&rct=j
I've done it with a 13. Pre select high range in 5th....move lever out the 5 hole and split up.... Move lever all the way left and back into the L hole....I guess this would be LH? Like large car says, the ratio is almost the same as 5L..... Maybe just a smidge higher. I find it useful when climbing a steep grade....its a lower ratio on the high side to help after losing all those rpms when moving the lever so far.
Well there is just one problem with this.. That is a mod that someone has done for a truck simulator so this is not a real shift pattern.. Just some one who made it up for a game/simulator... I tried looking around the internet to see if one really exist and came up empty handed... I never have understood why they are considered 18spd and not 20spd.. Like I don't know why L and LL are not considered gears.. They are still a gear are they not....
I heard about "a hidden" gear on 8ll and it is the same hole used. I tried it out of curiosity it is a ratio between the highest low range gear and lowest high range gear. It does work but if eaton fuller wanted you to use it they would have posted it on the shift pattern sticker.
I do the same thing time to time out of habit. My 359 farm truck the synchronizer's have been going out of the front box for a while. Cant flip the switch into low unless your slowed down to a crawl. Most corners I use that hidden gear and ease on up. Really sucks in stop and go traffic. Get to that point you just can't go any slower and have to coast. Then the traffic takes off I have to come to a crawl to get er back in low. I grab the same gear in the 379 without thinking but never really give it any power. Wait for it. Someone will chime in that big trucks don't have synchronizer's in 3....2....1.....
Who says the L and LL gear are not considered gears? Normally the reverse gear is not counted, as in the 10 speed, or the 9 speed
Because if you did the math to figure out the ratio of the gears in the no hole you would see that it is slower then 5th in the low side. The reason it is an 18 is because they only expect the 8 gears to be used in the high side.
I haven't done the math but its seems like a slightly higher ratio than 5L to me. I'm taking about 13 spd not 18
