sorta like this ? This wa a loggig road and this was our 3rd load but we had been backing in and dumping. Well this laod I pulled up and started backing in the logging contractor stopped me and said we went across with no problem while you were gone to get this load .Wellwhen we left all there equipment was sitting out in the road and now it was not So like a duma@# I turned around and head off in head first as u can see I did not make it . Ended up have to get a skidder to pull us out after we dug mud out from under neath. Ask the owner how they got through withouf t gett buried hesaid wel we come acroos with a one ton pulling a fuel trailer .:biggrin_25516::biggrin_25510:What the crap How did you get the big trucks in ? he said OH we had another gate on down the road no SH** sherlock . I have a 15spd and did have 3:90s till the wheel differntal came apart a week ago due to the fact that who ever rebilt frt rear end either di not put loctite or did not tourque bolts down as that all backed out so I ended up pulling both pots and regearing to 4:11s . really nice now but gun shy now .

    What are they...

I've never driven one. As a student I only have experience in a 10 speed and a little experience in a 13 speed.

But how many gears are TOO many.

"Benefits of an 18 speed? What are they..."

For off-highway, the benefit comes from being able to split the low side of the transmission.

For on-highway, the benefit comes in the form of a lower reverse gear ratio. 15.06 for 18 speed - versus - 13.22 for the 13 speed.

If you run a 18 speed "on-the-highway" only, you'll probably never split the low side of the transmission......So, one would think the 13 speed would be a better choice......BUT.....IMHO, the lower reverse gear is "worth the price of admission"...... all by itself !!!

It all depends on what you do. I have an 18 speed with a 4 speed box and 2 speed rears.....and yes....I have used them all. If you are a box jockey though...I don't see a need. The need is what drives the selection. So it depends on the use. I know guys with the same setup as me but instead of an 18 they have 22s or 27s. Yes, they make bigger than an 18 speed.

Shooter, thems lots of gears you have.... What do you do for work?
And what are the 22 and 27 speeds you mention?
I have an 18 with 2 speed rears and like it very much. I have no idea about the kind of trucks you are talking about. Oil field trucks seem to have your kind of specs? Again, i know nothing about them... thanks, David

    No it dont. It lower than a 9, 10, 13, and even the 15 but an 8LL is a tiny bit lower ( 18= 14.40, 8LL= 14.56 ) and the 9LL has an extremely low 26.08,:biggrin_255:

    9LL is only 26.08. ONLY 26.08 is almost funny.:biggrin_2559:
