My uncle got one and tried it. It’s not terrible but definitely would have to get used to it.

i have been in your shoes. Still am, i bought my truck at 18 leased to a company in Kentucky which im still at, pulling a flatbed locally. The big 21 is coming up her next month. I am currently looking for a different company to lease to. I want to jump out and get my own numbers, but 21 years old new authority, wanting to haul livestock, the insurance is going to be the killer im afraid. Best of luck to you.

    ccogburn0 and Lepton1 Thank this.

Definitely subscribed. I wish I had stayed with trucking when I got into it at 21.

Yes sir what I’m thinking about doing. The insurance is a killer only if you go with farm tags ain’t as bad. Best of luck to you too. Thank you for you advice too

You’ll do just fine. I grew up on a farm as well and hauled grain. I’d just keep doing what your doing and focus on saving as much money as you can. Maybe buy a modest house and put renters in it while you still live at home. Then here in a few years use the equity to help start your own authority and trucking company.

I agree on the asking questions and getting advice. Even more important is sorting through the bad advice and only absorbing the good. It’s a middle ground.

Regs for farm vehicles in Texas. Can't run for hire using farm tags. Also a 150 air mile restriction, not 250. Going to need commercial tags and commercial insurance including cargo to run for hire. Also DOT numbers/inspection, MC Authority and ULS fee paid - maybe, maybe more in Texas. Each state has its own set of requirements.

ULS because some states require it paid if hauling grain that is bound out of state. Illinois enforces this. I know, got a ticket - beat the ticket because that particular load was going to an ethanol plant. $1000 fine. Not sure how Texas enforces this.

Not so easy to jump into a farm licensed truck and start making money...

Read the link and understand it...

once you haul something that you are getting paid for you can't have farm plates ..... it's done a lot just not legal ... Texas does check especially if you haul dump box
