Hello to all the Cat Gurus. I replaced thermostats recently while replacing water pump. As DDS said, i believe they were 192 thermostats. If i replaced with 180 thermostats, would that affect computer? Is computer set up for 192 degrees and would it think truck was cold with 180 and somehow run in cold mode or something trying to bring up temp? I would love to run 180's if engine is ever rebuilt. Dont know if i explained this correctly, but i look forward to your thoughts........ david

I have found the 195 works just fine it is normal for this engine to run 200deg on a hard pull. Check first if the radiator is designed for 500-600 h/p! Looks like you got a handle on it though.

For me 210F is normal, pressurized system boils at 250 maybe. Ever thought that when piston is hot it expands and if liner is too cold it might be too tight=scored liner. Maybe not good to manually engage fan at very low temps. My race engine runs at 230F all the time, have no fans but I use water wetter to prevent local boiling.

    180 degree thermostats work great. Ran them for years in a '97 w900l with a 6ts 3406e

I’m sure he’s been on pins & needles waiting 13 years for that response. Thank you do your contribution.
