I've run across Air Force and Navy personnel who were operating actual gov't plated CMVs on the road, and they tell me they have CDLs. The Army, I know some states have a program where you can get a CDL if you have so many hours operating certain vehicles, but that's a bit of a crap shoot... I've known 88Ms who've driven 915s and HETS, and I've known some who've never run anything more than a 900 series 5 ton or FMTV.
I wasn't in transportation when I was in the Army, so I can't speak to any of it firsthand, though.

Problem is that, unless it's changed in the last year, DOT doesn't recognize military licenses. You get out and still have to attend school and learn the civilian way. Some trucking companies (like schneider) recognize it for seniority though. So they wouldn't look at you as a rookie, but having had years if experience. The GI Bill is worth it's weight in gold tho however you spend it.
Trucking in Tennessee Thanks this. -
I was wondering if it was transferable. Good job.

Military Skills Test Waiver Program
Veterans who drove heavy duty vehicles in the U.S. Military can earn a commercial driver’s license (CDL) – and find work that fits their experience – without having to take the road test portion of their State’s licensing exam.
