I imagine it looked solid when he made the turn. But in reality it was just soft back fill that wasn’t packed and full of water. Once both tires hit it it sucked him right down. But again I don’t know and don’t really care. Better him than me. Yes I’m an ####### so what

I've been the cause of a hefty tow bill before. Misjudged the crown of a road while hitting a set of ramps in GA. High centered the trailer. Should have sent the escort ahead of me. Tried to use the manual valves to push the suspension as high as I could and it wasn't enough. My multiaxle has a fixed neck so no other options at the time to lift it. After an hour of blocking a state highway a couple local sheriffs showed up and called me a wrecker. $5500 and 2 wreckers later I was unstuck. I didn't lose my job and I wasn't billed for it. I even offered several times to split the bill with my company if they wanted. They said no and told me that as long as I never get stuck in that spot again it won't be a problem.
Getting stuck or missing a turn happens. Nobody in this industry is perfect and you're a #### liar if you say you are. Anybody that owns trucks knows that it's not if, but when the wrecker bill will come. If you make a mistake like this and learn a lesson from it for the future then all is good. If a guy does this 3 times a week then he should be fired.Last edited: Feb 15, 2019

Agreed that could easily look like a nice solid surface if nobody has driven on it since the rain or snow melt. Tires touch it and boom 18" of sloppy mud with no hope of getting out.cke, SAR, jamespmack and 3 others Thank this.

Thay kind of weight he absolutely felt when the front axle left the black top. He also ha mirrors.
That front axle looks to be 5 feet or so from the edge of the drive. And it's the outside wheel in the turn. That puts his inside leading axle wheel 8.5 get farther from the drive. That's why i said 15 feet.
A little different than dragging your rear axle 2 feet over a curb and getting a fire hydrant or stop sign.jamespmack Thanks this. -
In the rain in the dark?cke, SAR, jamespmack and 1 other person Thank this.

I did it a while back up in Canada. Was turning around in a dark gravel truck stop. Thought I was being smart going behind the line and pulling through into a spot. Steers hit the soup and dropped 6" and stopped steering. Quick slammed it into reverse before it sunk any more.cke, SAR, jamespmack and 3 others Thank this.
