A few months ago I came across a 1974 International 500, 2WD with a 4 speed and no body. The can was real bad, the floor was almost completely gone. I live in Vermont so rust is a big deal here. Will I was gonna buy it but then a rust free 63 C1300 came up for sale and I bought that instead. However I kept thinking about the 74 and ended up making an agreement to buy it. Well I had not gone and got the truck or paid for it yet when about a week ago I found out it got crushed. Luckily it was only the cab that got pushed in (by a loader for some reason) While the cab was bad it still had some good parts that were unfortunately ruined. So my question is should I still buy the truck (for a lot less than the little I was gonna originally pay) and try to get a new cab? Or parts it out?
I don’t know what motor it’s got cause the hood was stuck and I never got to the truck with tools to get it open. However I did talk with a gentleman who looked at the truck about 7 years ago and he thought it had a V8. The frame is solid and so are the axles as far as I can tell. The transmission still shifted too.
Any advice on whether it’s worth saving is appreciated. Or reach out to me if your interested in parts from it
1974 International 500 is it worth saving

This one sold for $800 Canadian this past spring. Farm truck so no registration/title.
Hate to say it cause I like the old binders, I doubt the one you are eyeballing is worth much more than the scrap metal unless you have a market for the parts.
Albertaflatbed, Sons Hero and Big Road Skateboard Thank this. -
Well,,that depends. 1st, the "D" series were great trucks, that '74 was one of the last,( May 1975) and the "500" was the top of the line. Most 1 tons had an IH V8. They were poor sellers, and towards the end, one site says less than 6,000 total were sold in 1974, so the 500 even more rare. Thing is, as a parts truck, you can't go wrong, so few of these exist today, if you do happen to find a decent one down the line, the parts would be unobtainable. Good luck, I wouldn't pay much for it, that's for sure, not more than a grand.

Buy it for parts. Likely had a 345 V8, some of the early 70’s grills are quite rare

Well I got the truck, I couldn’t save anything from the cab because it was so destroyed, not sure exactly what the trucks fate is yet.
