The wipers were working when I picked up the truck, but going down the road, they tend to either work at max speed, or not at all. After an hour or so, they would sweep once or twice and stop, even if I left the valve open for hours.
Any tips for troubleshooting this? They two knobs are seperate, but they've both got the same problem.
Thanks for any help.

Pneumatic wipers are high maintenance. You might consider converting to electric to save yourself a lot of time, money and inconvenience. Electrics are way more reliable.
-
I figured an electric conversion was likely in order. Rooting around for a kit now.
Any common fixes for the pneumatics in the meantime? I've got DOT compliance updates to worry about for the last 30 years, so if I can delay tearing into the wipers for a week or two, I just might get rolling a bit sooner. -
It will most likely take new wiper motors, but you could try cleaning and lubing them up. Corrosion eats them up from moisture in the air system and going unused for extended periods.
-
Well, since the only price tag I've seen on a complete kit so far is $700, I'll try cleaning them up until I can find something closer to $250.
I read about some station wagon motors being used in another thread, and I guess that might end up being my best bet. -
Was that the rear wiper motor from a Taurus wagon?
-
I just remember it was a 92-96 GM, possibly an oldsmobile. Had the right shaft and mount and everything.

There are good reasons why they changed from pneumatic to electric.
