I guess we work it from the bottom up.
See to your batteries, are they fed? Cables and so forth tight to them? And then follow them to the different places where the power is used such as the starter motor. Work over each spot until you discover burnt or other problem that is obvious to you.
Try to do this systematically, it's so easy to throw a bunch of money you don't need to. I will look at the fuel pump. Some here say starter.
Your description of clutch work to keep it moving is very good. But since it's a natural breathing engine I don't know if there is enough oil inside there to keep your governor running well etc.
I'll follow this thread interesed in the learning of the solution in the future. It's time I refreshed myself with those old shakers.

I think you have a very nice ride and with a lil work she will definitely be a head turner. Shoot within a mile of me there are 2 900a kW, 68 autocar, 76 bicentennial 359 Pete, and various other 359s. Some run some don't. There is a guy about 30mins from me that has a bit of money. He just likes can over of any make. He got a 74 shaker with a Detroit ready to be restored along with various other trucks. He has a metal blg with 20 restored cabovers lol. This is one he offered meOLDSKOOLERnWV Thanks this.

Sweet! Most of my Autocar hunting has led me to the east coast...havent been that ambitious. Not many to be found in the midwest.. someday..slickWillie1980 Thanks this.

The autocar I mentioned runs. It sits in a horse pasture hooked up to a log trailer but it's not beat up. It's moved every now and then. The guy is a jerk but I know his nephew. I did help another member on a 66 marmon cabover I knew of in my area but the guy didn't wanna sell it at this point. It had sentimental value.OLDSKOOLERnWV Thanks this.

Sorry forgot to ask if your new COE has a cumm. motor in it, otherwise buying new batt. cable ends and the tool to clamp them tight on the clean wires you cut back till they look new, buy new short crossover cables to conn. the batt, together will help get it spinning over alot faster before buying a starter and it still not spinning fast enough to start?
