All im sure of is some model years where better engines than other years in both cat and cummins i just would like to know what years/models to stay away from.

Well out of the 18 rigs my boss had and another 20 or so ive driven over the years the cats where down more and of the 18 my boss had he dispatched all the cummins first, for those 2 reasons break downs and fuel.

    Bellydump work aspault and gravels.

And if you knew my ex boss the over the top perfectionist well lets say, he would drive a normal guy crazy.

At least do a lube and coolant analysis to see what is going on here: I have seen some pretty spectacular blown engines in this motor. Pittsburgh Power had some ideas about changing the fluid damper, that is probably a good idea as well. Read out the ECM at this time, too.

Check the engine very carefully for leaks before purchase, any leaks on the top end can indicate a weak head gasket, if you need to fix that and the engine is getting up over that 750 k mark, it might be time for an in frame rebuild.

Detroits or Cats shift more easily, even ISX engines are easier that way.

you want a celect plus, it has more electronic features. I don't think there are any cat haters here but there are some cummins haters lurking. The last two injectors I bought were about $380 each, in nov. 07 There is no such thing as cheap parts anymore since the introduction of electronics. In 07 when I inframed my n-14 parts come to $4900, at 818k miles it was getting a little tired, and would use about 1 1/2 gal of oil in 15k miles nothing horrible because it also had a couple of leaks, It didn't need o-hauled but I had the money, I needed to spend it to keep from giving it all to uncle sam, and because I wanted some piece of mind when I was dragging 105k lbs up and down the hills of Pa. I have no doubt that it would still be going today at 939k if I had not touched it, the job I've had since last may has hardly worked the motor. Tell me about that bridge motor 550 you ain't shy about telling people that in order for it to run good you had to change the ecm, and I know 3 people with accert motors and they all three want their old 550 back, anybody know how a stock 550 runs stronger than a stock 625 accert
