You are exempt if the engine was built to EPA 1998 Specifications. Take the reman serial number to Caterpillar, they can tell you the EPA model year of the engine and issue the sticker and other documentation if the authorities want to know why you are still running paper logs. Technically you as the driver don't have to have the proof in the cab, it has to be at the motor carriers office. PM me if you have any more questions.

What number in the serial numbers tells the year my caterpillar engine was manufactured?
-
i hear some guys just change stickers and run paper logs.

they can run your engine serial number to determine what year was originally built at scale house. thats what i told

I have a 1993 freightliner with a 1992 build date series 60 Detroit. Does anyone know how to obtain the needed documentation to prove exemption.? My current engine decals have seen better days. They are pretty torn & tattered..

You don't need anything. The model year of the truck is more than enough proof.

Sounds good, thank you. I was starting to feel nervous. I was reading "Are exempt trucks getting ELD's" topic & post #9 a fellow said he knows a guy sited in a '96 truck for no ELD. That's why I wanted to know if I required more proof..

LoL. She may be a bit of a dinosaur, but she's my dinosaur.!! More comfortable than the 2012 pickup I ran before the mandate hit, & exact same IFTAs..
