not a problem, I fixed my post. It was a bit confusing I see..... so are you thinking about coming over to the pumpkin?? If so, you can see my posts in the Schneider Chocie thread about my current rates....

As far as the OP goes, I can gurrantee we are making more than USX is paying you, and doing it with half the miles too. Don't get me wrong, they might be a great company to work for, but I learned long ago that it's about revenue, not miles.

Tell the truth. I really don't know WTF I'm thinking!! LOL. I have spent the last 2 1/2 months researching getting my authority and everything involved with running on my own. I'm betting with all that I have learned....I'm still only at the tip of the iceberg so to speak. I'm close to being in a position to get that ball rolling if I decide to. Need to get a bank account set up and a few smaller details before I would apply should I decide that route.

I have been following your posts and MedicineMans posts about the choice program. I fired up my PC Miler program and ran the numbers for the loads you just posted. $4725 on roughly ( rounding up slightly ) 2800 miles. Rounding up slightly again ( like 1 penny ) $1.75 a mile to the truck.

Since you two have started posting about the choice program. I have been considering it, why, experience on booking, planning, having loads canceling so booking again. My thought is while doing that I am learning as well AND still have the proverbial "safety net" that I won't have going it alone.......so I'm thinking....always thinking..... :biggrin_2558:

P.S. we are like 60-70 miles apart. Michiana area for me.

I am doing the same thing. I just bought a Talbert 30T DD trailer last fall and am working here at SNI to get some money saved up and pay off a few bills left over from other things. Then I am going to either go to Landstar and do local heavy machinery or get my own authority and do the same thing. Like you said tho, the LS saftey net makes me look more towards them than going it on my own as I don't want the hassles of paperwork and billing and such.... then again, I might sell the trailer, pay off the rig and just run local around Chicago (about $300-$400 a day) and go home every night and live life.

BTW, I live in Westville, IN

Maybe it's different for folks that are signed on to Landstar, but I've pulled a few of their loads under my Authority and of course had to invoice them when completed. I'd assume BCO's have to do the same?

safety net with LS??? HA!! when my ac went out I had to APPLY for a $700 advance to get it fixed. they would not make it a loan which would have split up reppaying into two or three installments so they took my whole next check. Took me 12 hours to get the com check, the dealer had closed and the mechanic was standing around after hours waiting for the check..

1st that laptop (netbook) on the dash was only open for the pic and no I NEVER HAVE IT OPEN WHEN DRIVING.(don't care if you beleave me or not) it sits turned the otherway because of the power cord with a strap holding it closed on the dash.

the only thing it has loaded on it and ALL it is used for is ddl and the printer driver so we can print are log's and it isn't internet capable as is. the wyfi card was taken out when i did the ram upgrade. and if you knew anything about netbooks they don't have cd/dvd drive either..

the reason i have it on the dash is to keep it safe.....! can't fall, can't forget and set something on it . can't spill anything on it and it's within arms reach when we need to log something and DOT has never EVER said anything about it.. and yes they have seen it. it's been sitting on the dash for 3.5 years.

i was DOT'ed level 3 last week and when he asked to see my log i just (with him standing on the step with the door open) pulled if off the dash turned it around and opened it for him.... he looked at it handed it back and said thank you and i put it back.

2nd you don't like the monitor for the sidetracker camera... so what..! it's DOT legal and if you don't want one then don't put one on your truck....! and BTW it's mounted below are line of sight. we like it and all i did was change the monitor to one (same size) that i could use for the (ram mount laptop) display for the gps software and i can switch from the gps to the camera. (don't need two monitors) the laptop in the ram mount is closed and swung over the passenger seat when we are driving with the screen closed (had to order special clips so it would close and still hold it)

3rd don't like the XM well it was free (safety award) the truck came with a volvo am/fm cassette so it doesn't have xm built in, and if you have ever heard a volvo stereo (9 speaker stereo w/ sub woofer) you would know that no aftermarket stereo sounds as good..unless you spend alot of money. aftermarket pioneer/sony. will not drive the sub right and yes are last volvo had a pioneer in it and it never sounded as good as the volvo radio did...

now lets look at a few things

you have a cooler in your truck and we have a REAL REFRIGERATOR (are last one lasted 4 years) so we can keep milk, fresh fruit, vegetables, frozen food and ice cream when we want. we have a microwave (how many of you do) so we can eat healthier by not eating at the truckstops.

we have an hp all-in-one printer in the truck (required by DOT if using ddl) and the printer has made us enough money to pay for 10 more and we don't need to stop at truckstops to scan paperwork to get paid, make copies send or receive a fax. and we don't have to PAY a truckstop to make copies sent or receive a fax, how many times have you had to stop walk inside to get a fax number then call to have something (permit) faxed to you then wait for it....? we just stop when we want to and call then give are 888 fax number and start driving then when we will need it just stop get online and print it, saves alot of time and money.

we use a netbook to do are log's (always perfect) so what... how many of you use ddl for your logs....?

we have a laptop to run are gps WERE NOT the only ones. we can just do it with the screen on the laptop closed. how many of you have a stand alone gps in your truck....?

everything in the truck is DOT LEGAL and has been in company trucks before..

so what are you realy upset about is it that i found a way to spend less than $1500 to make are life simpler, healthier and more productive...?

and as to THE GREAT PUMPKIN and what they will or will not allow "i don't work for them and i'm not going to work for them" so why would i care what they think..?

    Thank you for saying that!
Have you noticed how some of these volvo owners really get their panties in a wad when you criticize their beloved trucks.
