Walmart. Many still allow truck n trailer parking. Watch for truck stops with a dollar gen or Walmart next door. I bought a folding shopping cart from Walmart for 25$ that fits behind passenger seat. Can drag alot of groceries back in it. Also. Most grocery store lots ok for bobtail.
Glad you got hired on. Best of luck. Please keep us updated. Maybe start a new thread with a happy title like Making Good at Western Express, or something.Sirscrapntruckalot, Numb, tscottme and 4 others Thank this. -
When I had time, I droppd my trailer at a truck stop or customer and bob-tailed (just drive the tractor) to a grocery store or Walmart. Park as far from the store front door as possible, and shop for groceries. MAKE SURE TO RETURN YOUR SHOPPING CART to a cart corral.Sirscrapntruckalot and UturnGirl Thank this.

Waste Management just called me, asked me to confirm if I was unemployed in 2019. I said yeah I was working at a restaurant when covid 19 lockdowns happens. They emailed me immediately after the phone call saying they were unable to move me forward in the hiring process

Yes. There are kingpin locks, but they are pretty easy to bypass or break. You only drop a trailer somewhere you are 300% sure is safe and with permission of the property owner. It's 100 times easier to avoid having your trailer stolen than dealing with having your trailer stolen afterwards while you look for another job.

You need to have a brief written statement documenting and explaining gaps in employment. Companies don't like to discover the gaps on their own. ANY documentation you can provide supporting that explanation will help you. Think of selling your car and not telling the buyer you replaced the engine when the original blew up and only admitting to that when he calls to ask after he's had the oil changed 3 months later. Even if everything was honest, it sure looks shady. It looks like you were trying to hide it from him. That's how companies view unexplained time more than 30 days. Have some brief explanation, states the dates involved, and find something to document your story ON PAPER. They don't know you from Jesse James. All they know is what's on your application and the documents you supply.Sirscrapntruckalot and UturnGirl Thank this.

Have you tried with Melton truck lines? They took me in back in 2019 when I had one dui from 7 years back and no experience. I got my CDL from self training so no schooling. It’s flatbed and somewhat hard work until you learn everything then it’s cake. It pays good and the hours are better than dry van hours. Then eventually after a year or 2 of experience. Buy yourself a truck. Rent a trailer and lease under someone’s authority so you can bring home 4k to 6k a week and work your own hours.

I can't imagine why it matters. There could be so many reasons why someone is unemployed that don't even slightly imply something negative about their character. It's kind of odd to me. I've worked a lot of places and never felt so scrutinized as in trucking.
