Not safe but safer? How about safety first and ensuring that the tank is free of any atmospheric hazards that create an IDLH condition. MSA and Dräger to name a few offer such devices.

 

There’s a lot of things that farmer types do that don’t hold up to osha standards…
The time it takes to remove the pump is likely too long and most farms are either too cheap for the meters or don’t have any one qualified to use them. A lot of employees don’t know that it’s in their interest to ask for such things. I sure didn’t before my confined space ticket.

But I agree that it should be something that they invest in.
