US Marine 64% is on the low side for tank. there is better out there depending where you live. i myself am getting myself ready to go independent pulling tanks within the next year i hope. PM me if you want more info from me as i know of several well paying tank outfits.
One of them likes you to be independent and will let you pull their trailer or yours. I will be partnering with this carrier when i feel i am ready, and lease or buy a tank of my own. doing so will allow me to use contacts i allready have and thiers and line up more ducks as time goes on.
Done right you can bring home some nice weekly checks after fuel but before everything else if you lease to the right company. you wont make that every week tho. The tank industry is very hush hush and most companies will keep you as dumbed down as they can. The good companies dont advertise and dont need to. Speaking of hush hush im not typing anymore here.

Numbers are just a piece. What fits into your life and the integrity of the company counts for far more than the money.Last edited: Jul 28, 2013

BBB , I appreciate your insight and I've always admired your teachings here and think you and F2F are a great success story . I'd like to see what your calc for down time vs productivity is on this and your insight on the options of the post -
How much more risk is there if you already own your own truck.???
You have as much risk as I do. Either one of our trucks could come apart and we'd be in the same boat.
If anything, I'd say you are taking the greater risk by limiting yourself in your ability by leasing on to someone who controls your destiny really.
They decide which loads to offer you and for what rate.
As to your original question....
I won't deny. I think you are looking at it all wrong. You are too focused on per mile revenue. What is your monthly FIXED expenses including YOUR draw to cover household expenses? How many days do you want to work a month? You NEED to cover those expenses. Regardless if you are moving or not.
THEN add in your fuel per mile and maint per mile every time you have to move that truck.
If that gives you a number you can be happy with, take the one that gives you a bigger bottom number. -
One thing that hasn't been factored in is how the miles are calculated. Some companies (especially van companies) use shady methods to short you as much as 15-20% on miles. When that 500 mile run turns into 585, your 75% shrinks very quickly. If possible check with O/O's working for the company to see how far off the mileage is from actual. drop and hook sounds good to me as deadheading could also be a big factor I would think especially with tanker.
