I travel with my dad frequently in Mexico and in the early 90's we often took buses. Though we chose to ride in the high class buses that ran newer equipment, there were plenty of smaller, economy companies that ran old dog buses with detroit two stroke engines. It was pretty cool to be at the bus stations and listen to them take off into the night with their often unmuffled 2 strokers. Some were so loud you #### near had to cover your ears. Those days are almost gone since, as has taken place in the states, buses are now using modern electronic 4 stroke engines and even the second-class companies are replacing their old 2 stroke equipped buses.

"Surely it takes the innocence of youth to go to war in a vehicle powered by a GM diesel" -
The screamin demon..... Could actual run backwards and pump out all the oil, well, anyway the oil that it didn't leak out.
-
yea and if you stalled it,the engine would and could run backwards with the exhaust coming out the air breathers,I drove a brand new brockway in 71 with an air 5x 4 318,hauling flatbeds and dumpbuckets, ran great, loud as heck at the sweet spot would really wrap off, sounded great, boss used to reach into the dual mufflers and burn the baffles out, miss the sound, not the motor or headache at the end of the day. How about the ole 409 chevy truck gas engine, gutless but really worked hard, sounded good,no torgue compared to diesels.

we had a farm tractor with a detroit lug it down plowing and it would start going backwards and blow the oil out of the oil bath air cleaners all over the hood

thank you all for the information about 2 strokers.

They also liked to start sucking oil through the rings and seals and star burning it in the cylenders causing the motor to run away on ya. The only way to stop it before it detonated was to empty a fire extinguisher into the intake.
We had a few at tech school ad we had one run away after one of the student rebuilt it. Inside a shop and no exhaust..... It's not something you want to hear -

me and my friend are looking into buying a 85 freightliner with an old detroit 2 stroke we want to use it as a can hauler when we get our cdl could it past the smog test now?
