When my father had trucks, he had a few with the two stroke Detroits, back in "the old days". IMHO, they were JUNK. The best of the bunch was a turbocharged model, 350 hp in a 1978 cabover Kenworth. My brother in law drove that one, and stopped at a filling station one day for a cold drink. While he was putting coins in the coke machine, the station attendants were filling a propane bottle nearby that started leaking- the wind was blowing just right, and before BIL could make it to the truck to shut the runaway engine, a ugly noise, motor oil all over the ground, and a connecting rod slightly out of place......
The station owner had insurance, which paid for a reman engine. Shortly after that the truck got stolen, and dad then declared that Detroit "the best of the fleet".
One of my dad's friends who also had trucks, took one of his junk 318s, and put it in the middle of a driveway that people were using to cut across his parking lot to access another street. It stayed there for years, and he would often say that was the best service he ever got out of one of those puke green motors.
