A lot of people don’t get a second chance to think about it and learn the lesson too late.Vampire, JerryD13, Siinman and 1 other person Thank this.

Oregon fines are kinda steep as well, $851.00 plus fees and surcharges if memory serves me.

This is America not North Korea. We're innocent until proven guilty. I agree everybody should wear a seat belt in a commercial truck because that's the easiest ticket to avoid, but to ruin someone's job prospects for a long while because they didn't put one on? That's crazy harsh. If he can beat it in court it's pretty much guaranteed he won't make that mistake again.

What's the big deal about someone not using a seatbelt? I always use it, but I've never given a second thought about anyone who doesn't. I get getting a ticket but why would a company consider this a major violation...
-
I dunno, everyone acts like it's a serious violation so I just assumed it was. I look at it like you and to me it's BS to ding somebody's job prospects on such a trivial, absolutely nothing offense. Yeah I understand seatbelts save lives and I wear mine but I guarantee you most people that spend $500 on a lawyer to beat a silly ticket like this (if it is a serious ticket and they need to) won't make the same mistake again.
JerryD13 and shatteredsquare Thank this. -
It’s not so much the companies but the Feds, states and municipal jurisdictions themselves. Now that CSA 2010 exists and it’s here to stay, accountability plays a big role in holding companies responsible when their employees don’t buckle up. And that accountability has a severity and time weight to it.
Which also in turn also affects the insurance rates!JerryD13, 48Packard and rollin coal Thank this. -
It's not really about the people involved in the accident, it's about how much an insurance company pays out in the event of an accident. It affects them when someone decides to not wear a seatbelt and their injuries are more severe because of it.

I got a seat belt ticket many years ago in a personal vehicle. My insurance company said they didn’t care about it as it wasn’t a moving violation.

Had a friend get decapitated in a wreck without a seatbelt on when I was a teen. Seen the aftermath of that and put that seat belt on every time I get into any type of car, truck, semi. No chance in hell I would let anyone ride with me without a seat belt. Also had a friend become paralyzed from waste down when he was in wreck with his other friend. They was in a little GMC pick up with a sun roof and he ended up rolling the truck and he was half way out the sun roof when it rolled.
