If the driver is ####### why would co gives notice ( for example he always late , damaging equipment etc ...keeping extra weeks this driver will cause more damage ) , if everything good and the driver found better place to work I think it's good to return truck in same condition and give notice ( in case there is work lined up already and there is no way to make it if he leaves right away ) , I used to have drivers giving me month notice and driver abandoned truck in Houston and didn't answer the phone for 3 day , stole some parts ( surprisingly after over a year he called me asking for advice in life changing situation ...before he abandoned my truck I gave him last check and offered to walk away if he is not changed ) , at the moment I don't have work scheduled or lined up and if the driver quits I will be happy if he bring the equipment to yard and leave .

That's how trucking is too. Getting back somplace is easy. but getting back someplace at exactly 2 weeks from now, not so much.

When I start getting 2 week notices when I get laid off I'll start giving them when I quit.
I've never regretted quitting a job, but I have regretted staying at one. By the time I quit, I'm gone. I don't care what they think and I wouldn't use them as a reference anyway.Thull Thanks this. -
This two week notice thing as what it is. You are going to get every position under the sun in here. I think I can sum it up in a few words. First it depends on the company you are with. Most of these carriers you are a truck number to them. They will have another warm body in that truck within weeks. If you are working for a small carrier that might be different. The operable thing with your comment was the return part. Leave on good terms check your truck in even if you quit that same day generally nothing is going to happen. Don't listen to the ones that say the carriers will load up bad things about you in DAC. Your DAC will only have the dates you worked there, why you left and your rehire status. Even if you turn in a notice this will not change. EVERYTHING else is in comments and to be honest those comments are generally ignored.
What you are going to run into with giving a notice is some carriers won't allow you to leave with their equipment and will tell you to go on ahead and leave. If you do it on the road some carriers might out of spite keep you out longer then that 2 weeks. In general unless your situation is unique I HIGHLY recommend you DO NOT give a notice. When your done tell operations and turn in your truck. -
You don't really have a choice to give them as reference or not in trucking, I know it's not technically a reference but you have to tell them every job in the last what 10 years, wouldn't be that hard at the point for them to call and ask around.

It really depends on what kind of a relationship you've had with that company. If there's a chance that you could very will return then by all means give them a two week notice. Having said that, no company gives you a two week notice when they decide that they want to terminate you. LOL
When they decide to terminate you they don't give you a notice which means they don't really give a sh## about your problems so I don't see what the point is in you really giving a #### about how your quitting is going to affect them.
I have a great job but I've been out here for 38 years and I sure don't need any one trucking company. There are a zillion places I can go and sign up today especially when I have an unblemished driving record and loads of experience.Last edited: Sep 5, 2018

Did the old company not try to retain you? No exit interview questions to determine why you are leaving? Sounds like they truly don't care or have poor business skills so maybe leaving is best..

I’m not leaving the company because of any problems. I’m leaving for a job that better suits me & my family. It’s local, the hours/days work great, better benefits etc. I’m not for any reason considering leaving my job other than for a better opportunity. If I could get the schedule that the new job offers with my current employer I would stay put. I have no negatives about my current company, what so ever.
