I wouldn't drive a truck for 20 an hour . I work for a major carrier that does not higher newbies we get paid a higher starting wage I average a little over 28 an hour and get home mid week and the weekends if you want to make money sign on with a good company and stay more than three months and work your way up the load board and get a few raises . Most of the truckers I know that complain about wages are the same ones that give dispatch a hard time and turn down or whine about every other load they are offered it takes hard work and self discipline to make money in trucking and every other business . Something a lot of young graduates these days don't understand .
$20/hr minimum

I've had enough green students to know the CDL schools should be abolished. It's the driver trainers and then the countless other drivers who help these new guys along over a few years. I say 2 to 3 years to achieve what is deamed "journeyman" level in trucking. And if truckers only worked 40hr weeks and took off when it rained; I'm sure it would take 4 to 5 yrs, like in other trades.Ghost Ryder and muledriver Thank this. -
This is another example of cherry pick a case and amplify. It's still a mistruth. Following you logic, the way to a better life is to strive to work for less so everybody gets more. Sounds strikingly like Marxism a bit to me.
But what do I know? You're the economist.snafu Thanks this. -

Drifter I with all you have said except "This industry draws people that can't or don't want to put forth more effort to get a good paying job." I have worked for large wireless carriers in the past as a computer tech , manager and a install manager, and now am starting a new job in truck driving. I am sick of all the bull crap that comes along with launching apps for cell phones and getting chewed on just to make Director look better in VP meetings. All of those jobs are just as stressful as any other. While I know I will not be making near as much as I have been, I do think that the time (as little as it may be) spent with my wife will be better. I guess my point is I chose to be a truck driver and I surely hope that I enjoy the ride . I am not blind to the issues but I do see alot of people that whine about the company they work for on here. I have been taught you get what you give, and I also see that some of the whiners must have thought that there was a reset button on life if it was not going how they thought it should be. Just saying.

But maybe if you were getting paid $20 an hour for sitting and waiting for a load, I bet you wouldn't be sitting for long. If it doesn't cost the company to have you sit and wait then why would they even care.
