Wow, sorry to hear. Compared to what others get, 7.25 isn't too bad. I would have looked at a pre-owned Volvo 770, 2001 or older, the second re-design they got with the updated dash and head lights. You could get one of these with a Series 60, I believe they were much more aerodynamic than and reliable than a Volvo of a newer year. But I get what you're saying, you're losing a bit in revenue paying for that fuel. I forgot to mention, that marine ECM I believe power was rated at 565 HP, not sure what the torque numbers were but they should have been high.

I absolutely despise that Peterbilt 387 and would more rather have a long nose Pete, personally I'm not a fan of Peterbilt. The 387 to me is ugly, you can't see over the hood, has excessive blind spots, an ancient boring dash and not alot of interior room. I just don't find it as ergonomic as lets say your FLD or a Century Class, even a Volvo is far superior on visibility and storage. If you put in a fuel additive such as Howes or somthing else, you can raise your fuel mileage and the increase will more than pay for the bottle. Plus, you do gain some extra power. The CAT C13 I dislike the sounds of the engine, its just not "diesel" like if you would. The turbos sound like static, maybe a gust of wind as they spool - they sound nothing like a turbo should basically.

It's one thing about trucking I like is sight, sound and feel. If I'm driving a truck I don't like visually and ergonomically, an engine that is low on power or an auto shift(feel) and sounds like a C13 or ISM Cummins, I don't enjoy it. The last decent Cummins was the N14, the last decent CAT the pre-emission ACERT C15, I haven't driven a 3406(ABCDE) others might say that was the best. To this day even with all the changes the Series 60 was and is still king. Just listen to one REV up.

Well, after all this talk, I called the dealer I got my truck from and discussed a trade BACK for my FLD. I got a call today and the plant I deliver to had to install a new loading rack (tanker yanker here) and the 387 will not fit under it as its too tall. They have a Western Star I could get into as well bit it has a bridge motor and I've been told they are just as bad as the ACCERT. So I'm pretty set on just getting my old baby back and doing some cosmetics such as visor, fiberglass rear fenders and maybe a new paint job. And I'm deff putting in a wood floor and moving the drivers seat back about 5"

Thats awesome you're getting your truck back! What sorta RPMs/speed did you typically run in that truck to get that kinda fuel mileage?

You said and I quote, "They have a Western Star I could get into as well bit it has a bridge motor and I've been told they are just as bad as the ACCERT."

I googled it and unless you have an electric motor under the hood I have no idea what it was. You said a Western Star(semi) has a bridge motor(engine) that is just as bad as the ACERT(CAT). I put 2 + 2 together and I'm getting 3. I'm missing something...:biggrin_2552: You're comparing the engine to a CAT engine, but I don't know what engine your talking about.

It would have been faster to just tell me what it was, then to tell me to search the net for it.

60mph/1400 rpm's got me the 8-9mpg but I am also pulling an empty tanker trailer weighing in at 15,000lbs. When i was running van, I could get around 7.2-7.5mpg with the top 4 feet in the wind!!

That wasn't me that replied to you there..... but anyways, a "bridge" motor is the type of CAT engine. Just like the 6NZ and ACERT, it's the last pre-acert engine they built. Single turbo with a crappy ECM program. But I have been told with a flash to the ECM and a free-flow exhaust it will gain 1mpg.

That being said, i am getting the Western Star next friday :)
