Yep, I was expecting a normal type closed bearing. The rebuild on Utube had 28 steel balls. Lol. I wouldn’t even attempt it. Might just do the seal for now. Old Trucks list is getting out of hand. A bunch of small stuff all at once.

Input shaft seal takes 45min to an hour. Pretty simple. They're not terrible to build, but definitely R&R. In the shop it was more cost effective to R&R than parts and labor, so i quit doing anything but seals.

Insurance company came out back around 2011 or 2012 excluding liability on steering gears and 5th wheels.

I always felt my customers were better off being in and out in an hour, and back to work, versus half a day to R&R and build.

Heck yeah the deeper he got into it the more smaller balls and the small springs came rolling out, but l had already had the big bushings put in at the last rebuild because it was leaking out the bottom of my steering box because of the worn out bushings inside the box made a new seal start leaking in a week, the guy was like a pant and body man that would only rent a house if it had a garage in the backyard to do side work in?

I watch my buddy doing auto trans valve bodies the same way. How he remembers where all those little ball bearings and springs go in all kinds of different transmissions is beyond me.

Steering gears are all we send out anymore. Everything else we build here. You were being nice to your customers. Even in my own shop it’s cheaper to pre build stuff and leave it in the back room than pull and rebuild when it gets here. With multiple trucks the difference is huge. Pull and rebuild everything instead of Re+Re and it’s like you had one out of service for 3 months by the end of the year.

Well I ordered one from Autovalue Bumper to Bumper auto parts of all about places. Going to ship to local store supposedly within 2 days. $576 includes a $50 coupon and tax. $500 core deposit. Hopefully it will be a good one. At least if there’s a problem, they’re local. No return shipping, or out of town dealings. Dealer was about twice the price. Fleetpride was higher, with none available near me.Still trying to figure out what poppets are. Lol. I’m pretty sure I can put it on, bleed it by turning it back and forth. Hopefully I don’t have the locking up problem I’ve read so much about.

    Big Road Skateboard Thanks this.

I've never had any issues. Jack front end up, stop to stop and hold 15 seconds to bleed. Never any problems locking up. You'll have timing marks on the output shaft, and the input could have a missing spline to orient, but most just have the cutout where the pinch bolt goes.
