The wires at solenoid ( on firewall) on my Freightliner are common to break.I recently replaced my original Starter. New Lightweight, reduction. Cranks much faster. Has an extra solenoid on it. Left it on, per instructions. Pulls less power while cranking too. Money well spent. Original lasted 21 yrs. had been smoked a few times. I should have changed it out years ago. But my curiosity wanted to see how long it would last. Lol.I also learned you can pull start a bobtail with brakes applied. Lol.

That sounds like a fun pull start to watch.
wore out put me on a Denso gear reduction for later model Cats in trucks. I like those but not so fond of the Delco gear reductions. Wound just as soon have a MT 40 or 42.
