I am a fan of the E7 engines for sure as reliable as they come. I have worked on a couple of those trucks with the cruise problem you are describing. Found the brakes lights came on when you set the park brake. Ecm thought the brake pedal was applied so cruise wouldn't activate. It was an air problem seems like a diaphragm blown in the tractor protection valve

460E is econodyne it is 460 hp hotter 460 file for that year is 460xt 490hp good luck getting it from mack there are other options injectors turbos and tuning upgrades if you need it stock 427 has a better torque curve than a 460e and out pulls them. if previous owner put a cam in with the over haul that would be a big plus. also if he did it at mack it would have some good warrnty on the over haul

im pretty sure 460hp will be plenty for me im running less than 400 on a 9 speed right now and grossing over 80k loaded. and im not unhappy with the performance, it leaves some to be desired but it dosn't bother me. im sure 460 and a 13 will be much nicer right off the bat obvously we cant talk other than factory programing options here so gotta be carefull. i was a bit confused by seeing some truck listed as a 460 with 427hp. and didn't know if 460 was the top of the mark for hp for that engine.

what is the problem with getting the 460xt program from mack (hard parts need to be changed?) or is it too hot of a file for the engine?

no hard parts in the motor Mack only put them in all Mack trucks from the factory and the don't like handing the file out due to emission compliance. a 460 is 460hp at least but some had a weak torque curve the 13spd will greatly help you 427 are E7 427

True, just make sure the tranny can handle the torque. Mack engines are Reneaux and metric. Mack quit making their own way back when they couldn't get the emissions right. Still a good engine.

Once you get her home check some key points......look under radiator...those bushings should not be flat. Make sure the radiator strut bushings are ok too. If you need something send me a PM....I have a bunch of new stuff left over like hood guides, pigtails, king pins etc.

Check those water tanks too.....top off the one with the cap. Grab that Horton and make sure there is no slop......Get you some breakers too, fuses as needed / used.

One hard lesson I learned is proprietary parts. Many things MUST come from Mack....stupid stuff too like A/C expansion valve, hoses, etc. Other have look a likes that just don't work. The fan switch is another one.....burns up about once a year. Happens to all of them too. Wiring too lite I guess.

    Happy trails with your dog.....

ill defiantly check the items you listed. i have a mack/volvo dealer in town so parts shouldn't be a huge issue. the biggest draw back iv been told about macks is parts and being that i have a dealer near the house i don't anticipate a problem there. i also have a friend that has a small fleet of volvo's and gets a fleet discount there so he is going to look into if he can get me his pricing on parts maybe by saying im leased to him.

I just made it home this evening and the truck is on its way here. just spoke with the seller he is about half way here plans to be here early tomorrow afternoon.

Ezrider, I can't remember when they switched, but if that E7 still has the Bosch-style fuel system (seperate lines off the pump for each cylinder,) they don't return much fuel, and you'll need to account for that up in your part of the world come winter. I had a '97 with a 454, and I've always wished I'd have kept her around, I kinda miss looking at the backside of that gold bulldog. LOL

Ok well I had a Renault in my 98 CH per Houston Mack along with the $4100 Bosch injector pump. The quote I gave came straight from Mack when I asked why the dog was metric.
