we see -40*f here, i normally run #2 down to -10 to -20 then top off with #1 if im going to be shutting the truck off. -40 i put number 1 in regardless. i run some anti gel additives from time to time as well typically when im caught off guard and got full tanks and get a sudden cold front coming in. never had much issue with jelling in the past with other trucks.

im running a 60 series Detroit right now, ran mostly big hp isx's (Volvo pete's and kw's)and a couple cats prior to paying my own bills. this will be my first time ever in a mack or messing with a mack motor so i appreciate any and all input and pointers.

do you recommend that i run a fuel heater with this truck. isx's fuel always stayed quite warm with the engine running, a bit cooler on my 60 series. but the isx's would melt snow off the outside of the tanks at sub 0 temps.

the used replacement tanks that i put on my fld (swapped 28" dia to 23" dia for additional ground clearance) had a coolant heater installed in one of the tanks that circulated hot coolant threw a tube inside the fuel tank to heat the fuel, but i never hooked it up and never had any issues. i don't run a apu so if temps get down into the teens i idle at night anyway. never seen fuel gel above 0. i do plan to add a bunk heater to this truck but would probably still idle below 0 to avoid fuel or starting issues. currently i use a electric blanket and sleep in a cold truck till it gets down into the teens.

i don't plan to add a apu to this truck, my summer idle time is very very minimal in this part of the country plus i will be adding a pusher axle so i probably would not have room for a apu.

got the truck today, hooked up my trailer and took it for a test drive, seems to run great. previous owner brought all service records for the time he owned it with him. everything looks good. transmission shifts nice. power seems good, Jake break seems to be a bit weaker than my 60 series.

they took the headache rack off and put the factory exhaust back on as part of the deal but they re used the old rusty exhaust pieces he had saved from when it took it off. ill need to do a little exhaust work.

inframe overhaul did not seem to have included a new cam, but did include 6 new injectors, new heads. new liners pistons rings and bearings new t-stats ect.

service records indicate a well taken care of truck.

so far im happy with the new truck i got a few little things to try to knock out in the morning then plates and hopfully haul its first load tomorrow if i can get everything done quick enough if not it will be tuesday 2014-10-26 18.14.19.jpg

well making progress, looking like it will haul its first load tomorrow.

got a few things changed on the wet kit to work for my side dump moved the pto tank a bit, control switches in, trailer working with the truck, replaced about 7 feet of exhaust and got that all sealed up. greased the truck, got a few misc parts ordered that will need to be replaced soon (air tank straps ect.)

got the 2290 paid paperwork in order heading off for plates in a few mins.

wore out, you nailed it on the cruse control idle up issue, break lights are on when you set the parking break on the tractor with it running. but for the moment that will be a project for another day, but if you could pass along what had to be replaced where and what parts i will need that would be appreciated.
