I would think you could do it for less than you think if you do most of the work yourself. Sounds like a fun project. I also read about a guy with a 379 show truck that put a 359 dash in and it looked good but I'm not sure how he did it cause I know the 359 cab isn't as wide as 379. 4 state trucks sells the new dashes for 359. That's just my idea. I'd rather have an older looking truck than newer when done.

I started with a wore out 359 that I have had an 18 year love affair with. I have only owned it 4 or so not real sure. I done all the work myself, built a custom 3406B like no other, just everyday paint scheme and there was minimal body work. I have way more money in it than its worth to most but to us she is priceless.

I would do it in a heartbeat. That is a very desirable truck, especially if its heavy spec. The overhaul will be expensive, but that's true with any overhaul. If your not in a tight timeframe especially. I would rebuild a 2000 any day over purchasing a new emissions truck. If the cab is good, everything else is easy. Even then, cabs aren't too terrible

If you have the time and money I'd say go for it. For some guys the truck is just a tool. For others the truck grows on you. I'd be one of the latter. And you can take a good truck, inframe it, rebuild whatever needs it, have it professionally painted and still be way cheaper than gliders which are overpriced due to demand anymore. When you've put some miles on one you know what you've got.

can you guys refer where to start or do overhaul … so far i know dealer did give estimate of roughly 18-20k for complete overhaul , i talked to another guy from peterbilt of wadsworth ill , i think owner of bk(or dk) customs who has 389 glider , he got his engine built by cat dealer in MI area … not sure why … any advice will be greatly appreciated , i am new in repairs as far as doing something myself , but i am a fast learner … i would like to have 700-800hp daily driver …, from post i learned that i need different injectors , cams , turbo , tune etc … if anyone could help out with some more details or guidelines :)
i have my 99 kw900 with swapped acert instead of n14 , tuned from 475 to 550 - love the truck … better mpg even than my 2 detroits … probably because of the gaskets between steering wheel and seat :) , all the work has been done by mystic Jason from UT who never answered the phone for 1 week already (got his number from previous owner of the truck)
i'd like advice from mr. haney … can not pm …
as stated this is no rush project , for now i am just gaining info .
also what are the proper steps to do it step by step , frames replacement , engine overhaul , tranny , diffs , paintwork….
thanks everyone again for the input

We've completed many restorations (currently building a 359 Pete) over the years, to do them correctly without cutting corners cost's WAY more than the average person anticipates. Some of the restorations we have completed ranged in cost from 100K to 300K. All depends on what your starting point is and what your end goal is for the truck. The more ground you have to cover, the ticket just keeps climbing!

We support roughly 125+ glider kit builds a month, excluding the chassis, your looking at roughly 70K+ for the drivetrain package and assembly parts kits for a Paccar Glider. That's assuming you do not have a donor chassis or motor/trans ....
