Hey guys, I been trying to figure out where this ground wire goes on my dads 2000 Volvo 770. It has a Cummins N14 celect+
The wire is coming out from the harness where it plugs into the alternator. Any help would be appreciated.

whats the wire #?
As I can see it is european alternator with brushes.
There are D+ and W outputs. Sometimes outputs are not used -
Thanks for your response. I will look later today and find out if it has a number. I don't remember seeing one, but I will still double check. I hooked the ground wire on this one spot I found just to test it out and the battery light came on. When I disconnected the wire the battery light went away. So maybe it doesn't use it at all just how you mentioned it..

is the light on when you ground this wire?
-
if yes, this is D+ wire.
-
Yes the light comes on. So I don't need to ground this D+ wire?
-
usually it is pin on internal voltage regulator. but may be unused on some alternators
some alternators do not charge w/o D+ till you rev engine up to 1200-1300 rpm
Just an example of alternator wiring
4vmach1 Thanks this. -
Gotcha. Problem is the truck battery keeps dying over night. But the battery light doesn't come on after I use jumper cables to start it up. Alternator seems like it's running fine, but I might have to check it out with a dvm. The battery is reading 12 volts at the moment, but it just won't let the engine turn over.
edit: alternator is reading 12 volts as well. -
use clamp meter and pull fuses one by one to find what drains battery

Ill try that out thanks, Ill keep you posted soon. I'm actually working on my Mustang this weekend, but I should be heading back to where sits on Monday.
